Job Title: Engineering Technician

Operating Group: Gateway North America

Division: Engineering

Reports to: Engineering Manager/Head of Engineering

Job Level: Non-Manager Exemption Status: Non-Exempt

Qualifications & Experience

Job Summary:

The Engineering Technician is responsible for maintaining the integrity and safety of all ride attractions along with the site and supporting systems to the highest standards, ensuring safety for staff and guests.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Perform all required PPM work related to the wheel and carousel, following department standards and documenting within the internal work order system.
  2. Climb ladders to access equipment for maintenance, inspections, and emergencies.
  3. Ensure attractions are safe for staff and guests.
  4. Follow all safety procedures as outlined in the department Code of Safe Work Practices.
  5. Maintain a professional and approachable manner towards guests and team members.
  6. Maintain and develop the site to high standards.
  7. Keep equipment and tools in good condition and properly stored.
  8. Assist with maintenance of other site systems as needed.
  9. Maintain cleanliness of all work areas and guest zones.
  10. Assist with installation and maintenance of new equipment for site projects.
  11. Ensure equipment operates in full accordance with preventative maintenance programs.
  12. Work on mechanical, electrical, and control systems, prioritizing safety and minimizing downtime.
  13. Conduct safety checks for fire, health, and emergency systems, reporting hazards immediately.
  14. Record work details accurately in the recordkeeping system.
  15. Service audio-visual shows and undertake repairs promptly to ensure guest enjoyment.
  16. Inspect and repair electrical/electronic equipment from 24v DC to 480v AC.
  17. Perform daily checks like lighting, painting, and general repairs.
  18. Assist with safety checks for fire, health, and emergency lighting, rectifying hazards promptly.
  19. Complete daily health & safety and fire documentation.
  20. Maintain life support and emergency systems.
  21. Arrange statutory inspections and follow-up on recommendations.
  22. Address security issues related to displays and buildings.
  23. Check and maintain display lighting and bulbs for guest experience.
  24. Ensure site facilities and building fabric are safe and well-maintained.
  25. Contribute to annual maintenance planning and site development projects.
  26. Perform other duties as assigned by engineering management.

Education and Experience:

High school diploma or GED required, with at least two years of vocational/technical training and engineering experience, including maintenance of rides and equipment. Mechanical or electrical qualifications preferred. Experience in high-pressure environments and multi-tasking skills are essential. Licenses or certifications relevant to the role must be obtainable.

Travel Requirements:

Occasional local travel may be required.

Health & Safety:

Adhere to safety policies, use trained tools and equipment, report incidents, and cooperate with investigations.

Working Conditions:

Flexible hours including mornings, evenings, holidays, and weekends. Physical ability to lift up to 70 pounds, work at heights, and operate heavy equipment is required. Exposure to loud environments, chemicals, and varying temperatures is possible.

Environmental Factors:

Work may be indoors or outdoors, with exposure to temperature extremes, noise, and varying light conditions.

Lifting Requirements:

Ability to lift up to 70 pounds with or without accommodation.
