Job summary

Olin seeks an Engineering Technician to support operations at Independence, MO. You will run and program automation equipment, read blueprints, and assist maintenance to improve equipment performance for military products.

The role requires strong mechanical skills, CAD experience, and the ability to work shifts with overtime as needed. A DoD clearance is a possible requirement for access to sensitive data.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • 5 years hands-on experience with industrial machinery.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and control-systems understanding.
  • Good communication and documentation skills with engineering staff.
  • Able to stand for long shifts and lift up to 35 lbs.
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license and US work eligibility.

Responsibilities

  • Operate production equipment including BAMs, presses, V&Os, Manurhin loaders, and automation equipment.
  • Program CNC mills, lathes, wire EDM, and sinkers where needed.
  • Read, edit, and create blueprints using AutoDesk CAD software.
  • Measure with micrometers and calipers for precision parts.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on drives, motors, belts, and filters.
  • Read blueprints and military specifications for compliance.
  • Cover production floor when supervision is unavailable.
  • Diagnose mechanical problems using manuals and parts catalogs.
  • Prepare bills of materials, specs, and work orders.

Job description

Title: Engineering Technician
Location:Independence, MO

Salary: $67,800 - $86,000
Schedule: 4 – 10 hour shifts / Mon.-Thur. 6:00am to 4:30pm with overtime as needed.

Focus: As an Engineering Technician – Flex Pro Machine Shop, you will support Plant Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, and Facilities projects at the Lake City Army Ammunition Plant. This hands‑on role is ideal for a skilled, self‑motivated professional who can manage multiple priorities while helping improve equipment, facilities, and manufacturing performance in support of products for the U.S. military.

Engineering Technician Essential Functions
  • Operate various production equipment including BAM’s and other presses, V&O’s, Manurhin’s and other cartridge loaders, and other automation-integrated equipment.

  • Ability to program CNC mills, lathes, wire EDM, and sinkers is preferred.

  • Experience with Auto Desk CAD software for reading, editing, and creating blueprints.

  • Proficient in precision measuring using micrometers and calipers.

  • Perform routine maintenance, such as inspecting drives, motors, or belts, checking fluid levels, replacing filters, or doing other preventive maintenance actions.

  • Reading and understanding blueprints and military specifications.

  • Can briefly fill in to cover production floor when Supervision is not available.

  • Diagnose mechanical problems and determine how to correct them, checking blueprints, repair manuals, or parts catalogs, as necessary.

  • Prepare bills of material, specifications, and work orders

Engineering Technician Position Requirements
  • Possess or, be able to obtain and maintain a Secret DoD security clearance.

  • Minimum High School Diploma or equivalent.

  • 5 years hands on experience working with and repairing industrial machinery.

  • Solid mechanical aptitude, an understanding of control systems, and ability to use hand and trade type tools to perform repairs and maintenance on equipment.

  • Requires excellent communication and documentation skills and the ability to work closely with engineering staff.

  • Able to work standing up entire work shift, lifting up to 35 lbs., working with energetic materials.

  • Computer skills relevant to engineering work with experience with Inventor, or similar drawing programs, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint).

  • Exposure developing/creating and implementing brand new processes.

  • Ability and willingness to work any shift, including overtimeas needed.

  • Must possess a valid U.S. driver’s license.

Location-Specific Requirements:
  • This position requires successful vetting as an Employee Possessor in accordance with U.S. Department of Justice and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

  • This position requires access to ITAR controlled technical data, and as such, employment will be contingent upon the candidate's ability to access ITAR controlled technical data pursuant to an export license approved by the Directorate of Defense Trade Controls, if required.

  • This position requires successful vetting for unescorted access in accordance with U.S. Army and Department of Defense access policies. To meet the government‑facility requirements, the candidate must be a US citizen.
