Field Engineering Technician
Location: Corporate Office in Houston, Texas (Onsite). Travel: 30% traveling, including overnight.
Reports to: Engineering Product Manager.
Job Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Field Engineering Technician to join our team, reporting directly to the Project Engineer. This advanced role blends hands‑on on‑site work with corporate responsibilities, ideal for someone passionate about cutting‑edge technology and involved in the complete product life‑cycle.
Responsibilities
- Surveillance & Access Control: Manage, install, and service low‑voltage systems, including security cameras, access control, and IoT solutions.
- Site Audits & Design: Conduct regular security and technology audits at locations in Houston, San Antonio, DFW, and Oklahoma City. Design site layouts for new installations and retrofits.
- Research & Development: Install and evaluate prototypes for new technologies at Venterra communities.
- Company Growth: Attend due diligence audits of potential new property acquisitions and lead technology onboarding of newly acquired communities.
- Certification Opportunities: Earn certifications such as CPTED, CCNA, EPA 608 and others.
Candidate Profile
- Must possess a valid driver’s license with reliable access to transportation and be located in, or willing to relocate to, the Houston, Texas area.
- 5 years of field experience troubleshooting electrical systems, installing and commissioning networking hardware.
- Proficient with a multi‑meter and other electrical measurement tools.
- Intermediate proficiency with computer networks, switches, Wi‑Fi devices, and low‑voltage wiring; comfortable working on ladders.
- Experience in commercial or industrial wiring required; installation and commissioning of monitoring or control systems a plus.
- Experience with access control systems desirable but not required.
- Background in multi‑family or real‑estate not required.
- Basic understanding of control systems.
- Comfort deploying technology projects to the field.
- Ability to explain complex technologies simply.
- Demonstrated self‑learning of new concepts.
- Excellent interpersonal skills for building relationships.
- Strong grasp of engineering first principles and logical problem‑solving.
