  • Enter Environmental Data: input required data in prescribed formats to meet quality standards.

Join the Department of Environmental Protection as an Engineering Technician and help protect Pennsylvania's natural resources! This role offers the chance to support field surveys that guide important environmental projects. You will gain hands‑on experience with tools and techniques used to study mining impacts. Your work will help communities stay safe and preserve the environment!

This position supports survey operations that guide environmental projects related to mining impacts and land restoration. As an Engineering Technician, you will perform the following duties:

  • Operate Survey Instruments: Assist in using total station, electrical discharge machining, theodolite, transit, level, and other instruments to gather needed survey data
  • Handle Geospatial Equipment: Assist in operating high accuracy geospatial radio, receiver, controller, and base station
  • Process Survey Data: Use survey software to create control reports and compute coordinates, elevations, angles, and distances
  • Manage Field Records: Record, calculate, and check field notes and obtain project information at county courthouses
  • Maintain Equipment: Maintain and store equipment properly
  • Enter Environmental Data: Input required data in prescribed formats to meet quality standards

Work Schedule and Additional Information
  • Full‑time employment
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30‑minute lunch.
  • Telework:You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part‑time, up to 3 days per week. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high‑speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Ebensburg. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Additional details may be provided during the interview.
  • Salary:Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $41,506.00 (before taxes).

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements
  • An associate degree in surveying, drafting, designing, civil, or any other appropriate field of engineering technology.
  • Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within three months of graduating with a qualifying degree.

  • This particular position also requires possession of a valid Class C Driver's License.
