Job summary

System One is seeking an Engineering Technician in Denver, CO to perform field testing and inspection of soils, aggregates, concrete, asphalt, and other construction materials. You will document earthwork operations, conduct density and moisture testing, collect samples for lab analysis, and prepare daily reports for project managers and engineers.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required; associate degree preferred.
  • Experience in geotechnical engineering or materials testing preferred but not required.
  • Familiarity with ASTM and AASHTO testing procedures is a plus.
  • Ability to read construction plans and specifications.
  • Strong attention to detail and excellent written communication skills.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to lift up to 50 pounds.

Responsibilities

  • Perform field testing and inspection of soils, aggregate, concrete, asphalt, and other construction materials.
  • Observe and document earthwork operations, foundation excavations, utility trench backfill, and structural fill placement.
  • Conduct density testing, moisture testing, proof rolling, and compaction testing.
  • Collect soil, aggregate, and concrete samples for laboratory testing.
  • Prepare accurate field reports and maintain daily documentation.
  • Communicate test results and field observations to project managers and engineers.
  • Ensure testing equipment is properly maintained and calibrated.
  • Follow company safety procedures and OSHA regulations while working on active construction sites.
  • Coordinate with contractors and project teams to support quality assurance and project compliance.

Overview

Requirements

High school diploma or GED required; Associate degree in Civil Engineering Technology or a related field preferred.

Previous experience in geotechnical engineering, construction materials testing, or construction inspection is preferred but not required.

Familiarity with ASTM and AASHTO testing procedures is a plus.

Ability to read construction plans and specifications.

Strong attention to detail and excellent written communication skills.

Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office.

Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.

Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work outdoors in varying weather conditions.

A required certifications include:

  • ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician – Grade I
  • NICET Certification
  • WAQTC or equivalent field testing certifications
  • Nuclear Density Gauge Safety Certification (preferred)
