Sr. Engineering Technician

Linde Gas & Equipment Inc. is seeking a Sr. Engineering Technician to join our team!

The Sr. Engineering Technician will support division efforts to design, build, install, and validate process systems, electro-mechanical machines, and process automation systems to maximize reliability and process efficiency, while acting in a fiscally responsible manner.

What you will be doing:

Principal responsibilities

Safety

  1. Understand and adhere to company safe work policies.
  2. Follow Lone Worker Requirements.
  3. Report safety incidents and near misses.
  4. Report any unsafe conditions, environmental concerns, and process problems to management immediately.
  5. Contribute to the improvement of the Safety, Health, Environment and Quality programs.
  6. Apply the HWP process, LOTO and energy isolation procedures as required for company and contractor personnel.
  7. Follow EMOC procedure for all changes to process and operating procedures.
  8. Maintain site orderliness.
  9. Follow and support Avetta control management program for Adv. Control Engineering.
  10. Perform safety indoctrinations for contractors.

Project Execution-Growth, Productivity & BCP

  1. Support PE Controls Engineering, Utilize Web Audit Manager and Synergy to execute, document all corrective actions issued to the site from Audits and Incidents review (when applicable).
  2. Support division effort to specify, design/build, calibration, configuration, or replacement of process equipment and devices.
  3. Support division effort to specify design/build, install, startup and validate mechanical process equipment.
  4. Efficiently specify design/build, install, startup and validate electrical equipment control circuits.
  5. Efficiently specify, design/build, develop, deploy, startup and validate process control equipment.
  6. Work with Linde IT to support division efforts in the OT space.
  7. Effectively prioritize and schedule all work activities.
  8. Key member of multifunctional Project Execution startup team supporting all EPP and PDI Projects.
  9. Initial project commissioning and checkout
  10. Mechanical and electrical startup and troubleshooting
  11. Advanced training of onsite technical resources prior to full startup

Administrative and Managerial

  1. Follow all Quality Control requirements to ensure a quality product is delivered to Linde’s customers. Meet FDA requirements where applicable.
  2. Maintain a project startup work list and schedule, efficiently use of limited startup periods.
  3. Maintain open continuous line of communication with manager and other project team members.
  4. Direct and monitor contractors.
  5. Complete all training activities according to schedule and meet annual performance goals.
  6. Support entry-level technicians through coaching and mentoring.
  7. Check business email and Teams chats daily.
  8. Effectively prioritize and schedule all work activities.
  9. Organize, maintain all engineering documents.
  10. Support sites outside of the home Area as required; accept minimum 25% travel.
  11. Support plant and equipment commissioning activities.
  12. Mark-up engineering drawings to document changes or disparities.
  13. Identify cost-effective solutions, follow company purchasing procedure and spending limitations.
  14. Provide mentoring and training to all Engineering and Instrument Technicians.

What makes you great:

Required qualifications/experience

  1. Associate’s degree or equivalent training and 10 years of minimum job experience as an engineering technician.
  2. Certificate in instrumentation, industrial control/automation, or related technical discipline.
  3. Trade licenses in electrical field (Required for State of Oregon).
  4. Linde Qualified Electrical Person certified.
  5. Experience in a chemical manufacturing plant required.

Other qualifications

  1. Physically able to perform all duties required which may involve among other things: bending, stooping, kneeling, climbing ladders, and lifting and carrying loads of up to 50 lbs.
  2. Ability to climb to heights 200 ft above grade and work effectively.
  3. Valid driver’s license with a good record.
  4. Capable of distinguishing different colors.

  11. Familiar with all process and analytical equipment and functions.
  12. Understanding of electrical hazards and safety, and ability to troubleshoot electrical systems, with support from central engineering.
  13. Comprehensive knowledge of EI&C Elementary drawings and Electrical Single-Line Drawings.
  14. Comprehensive knowledge and ability to troubleshoot 4-20 mA transmitter and electro-pneumatic control loops.
  15. Comprehensive knowledge and ability to troubleshoot pneumatic control systems consisting of I/Ps, solenoid valves, quick exhausts, actuators, regulators, and proportional/integral controllers both standalone and cascaded.
  16. Comprehensive knowledge and ability to troubleshoot industrial refrigeration skids.
  17. Understanding of all trip and interlock logic protecting people and equipment.
  18. Comprehensive knowledge of control system architectures including hardware setup, and software configuration and IEC61131-3 Programming Languages.
  19. Comprehensive knowledge and ability to interpret engineering drawings including P&IDs and PFDs.
  20. Able to navigate LiDAP to find relevant standards, forms and supporting documentation.
  21. Able to complete all project management practices according to best practice and division standards.
  22. Capable of operating a forklift, and/or overhead crane, and/or man lift according to company policy.
