Dominion Energy is seeking an Engineering Technical Specialist to support our Advanced Distribution Management Systems, with a focus on the dSCADA system. You will configure SCADA points, assist with commissioning, and maintain displays while supporting day-to-day operations.

The role requires growing expertise across SCADA, DNP protocol, and office tools, with opportunities to advance from Specialist I through III based on experience.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering Technology or equivalent.
  • I–III levels with progressively increasing experience: I (0+ years), II (2+ years), III (5+ years).
  • Experience configuring and maintaining SCADA systems; familiarity with the DNP protocol (strongly preferred).
  • Basic computer skills and MS Office.
  • Ability to learn engineering principles and work on technical team projects.

Responsibilities

  • Configure SCADA points, support point commissioning, and update graphical/tabular displays.
  • Provide technical support and analyze systems, equipment, and programs.
  • Plan work, evaluate methods, and develop engineering criteria to meet standards.

Job Summary

This Engineering Tech Specialist will work in the Advanced Distribution Management Systems team to support critical operational technology systems with a primary focus on our distribution SCADA (dSCADA) system. This individual will be responsible for configuring SCADA points, supporting point commissioning activities, updating graphical and tabular displays, and supporting day-to-day maintenance activities within our dSCADA system.

  • Performs routine to moderate work assignments designed to develop professional engineering technology work knowledge, technical skills and experience within the functional area or specific engineering discipline necessary to progress to the fully functional intermediate level.
  • This role does not function as a technician in modifying, operating or maintaining systems or equipment.
  • Provides technical support and assistance in analyzing and evaluating systems, equipment and programs.
  • Plans and conducts work and assists in the evaluation, selection, adaptation and modification of standard techniques, procedures and criteria.
  • Assists with devising new approaches to problems encountered and in developing engineering criteria ensuring compliance with design criteria and standards.
  • Implents technology within an engineering field.
  • Focuses on the practical application of engineering theories; determines how to make the designs and plans of engineers work.
  • Applies basic scientific and engineering principles and methods, along with technical skills, to support engineering activities.
  • May perform product improvement, testing, field engineering, development, manufacturing, construction, systems development, quality control, and operational engineering.
  • May perform some design and theoretical work, but does not possess the educational background to function as an engineer.
  • May perform same work as titled Engineers, but possesses an engineering degree which is not ABET accredited.
  • May provide or assist with technical project management including scoping, scheduling, budget development, cost tracking and oversight of complex projects to meet cost and time objectives.

  • 0+ years of relevant experience and competencies in applicable discipline.
    • (Note: A partial year of related work experience of 6 months or greater will be considered one year towards the qualifications)

Engineering Technical Specialist II

  • 2+ years of relevant experience and demonstrated competencies in applicable discipline
    • (Note: A partial year of related work experience of 6 months or greater will be considered one year towards the qualifications)

Engineering Technical Specialist III

  • 5+ years of relevant experience and demonstrated competencies in applicable discipline.
    • (Note: A partial year of related work experience of 6 months or greater will be considered one year towards the qualifications)
  • Experience with configuring and maintaining SCADA systems and familiarity with the DNP protocol. (strongly preferred)
  • Basic knowledge of computers, keyboarding skills and the use of Microsoft office programs (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and applicable software programs.
  • Basic knowledge of engineering principals, theories and practices.
  • Ability to learn and successfully apply a basic knowledge, techniques, skills and modern tools of mathematics, science, engineering, and technology to solve broadly-defined engineering problems appropriate to the discipline.
  • Ability to learn and design systems, components, or processes meeting specified needs for broadly-defined engineering problems appropriate to the discipline.
  • Good oral, written and graphical communication skills required, to include basic technical writing skills.
  • Ability to learn and conduct standard tests, measurements and experiments.
  • Ability to function as a member on a technical team.
  • Organization skills and ability to prioritize and manager multiple tasks.
  • Demonstrates questioning attitude, problem solving, analytical and abstract thinking skills.

Degree or an equivalent combination of education and demonstrated related experience may be accepted in lieu of preferred level of education:Bachelor

Preferred Discipline(s): Engineering Technology, Physics, Math, Biology, Computer Engineering.

Other disciplines may be substitituted for the preferred discipline(s) listed above.

In order to be a titled Engineering Technical Specialist, you must meet one of the following criteria:

  • Relevant experience and a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering Technology (ABET or non ABET accredited)
  • OR relevant experience and Bachelor’s or post- graduate degree in Physics, Math, Chemistry, Biology, or Computer Engineering
  • Equivalent combination of directly related experience may be accepted in lieu of degree

Engineering Technical Specialist I

  • 0+ years of relevant experience and competencies in applicable discipline with a Bachelors degree.
  • 2+ years of relevant experience and demonstrated competencies in applicable discipline with an Associates degree.
  • 4+ years of relevant experience and demonstrated competencies in applicable discipline with a High School Diploma.

Engineering Technical Specialist II

  • 2+ years of relevant experience and demonstrated competencies in applicable discipline with a Bachelors degree.
  • 4+ years of relevant experience and demonstrated competencies in applicable discipline with an Associates degree.
  • 6+ years of relevant experience and demonstrated competencies in applicable discipline with a High School Diploma.

Engineering Technical Specialist III

  • 5+ years of relevant experience and demonstrated competencies in applicable discipline with a Bachelorsdegree.
  • 7+ years of relevant experience and demonstrated competencies in applicable discipline with an Associates degree.
  • 9+ years of relevant experience and demonstrated competencies in applicable discipline with a High School Diploma.
