Job summary

California High-Speed Rail Authority seeks a Senior Transportation Engineer to provide technical oversight for Structural and Seismic Engineering, supporting design and construction of a major rail megaproject.

The role requires extensive knowledge of seismic design, project management, and collaboration with contractors, consultants, and multiple agencies; telework options may be discussed for California residents.

Qualifications

  • Experience in structural, geotechnical, or seismic engineering directly related to civil infrastructure project work.
  • Experience working on design-build projects.
  • Structural and Seismic Engineering experience particularly related to transportation design and related work.
  • Experience reviewing design criteria or specifications to provide input or guidance on project work.
  • Understands and interpret Structural and Seismic engineering codes, technical requirements, design and construction methods.
  • Knowledge of and ability to apply engineering judgment in areas of design and construction engineering on transportation projects.
  • Experience project management in the development or design of transportation civil infrastructure project work.
  • Strong written, oral, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to work independently but with the judgement to know when to ask for assistance and guidance from a supervisor or colleague.
  • Experience providing technical oversight related to State transportation projects.
  • Experience with working on various phases of the transportation project and deign build delivery.
  • Experience with contract management.
  • Experience managing contractors and consultants or being a team lead over a transportation project.
  • Experience building and maintaining positive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical oversight for the Structural and Seismic Engineering section to support Design and Construction.
  • Serve as the Engineering Technical Lead under the Supervising Transportation Engineer.
  • Represent the Authority in meetings with contractors, consultants, and other agencies.
  • Prepare correspondences regarding technical engineering issues to stakeholders.
  • Guide and coordinate design-build delivery across transportation projects.

About the Role

Under the general direction of the High-Speed Rail Authority’s (Authority) Supervising Transportation Engineer, the Senior Transportation Engineer will serve as the Engineering Technical Lead. The Senior Transportation Engineer is responsible for providing technical oversight for the Structural and Seismic Engineering section to support Design and Construction at the Authority, a complex railroad megaproject. The Senior Transportation Engineer shall have extensive knowledge of structural and seismic design and construction procedures and practices and will perform a variety of complex tasks, requiring a high degree of independent action, initiative, discretion, and tact to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the Structural and Seismic Engineering Section. The Senior Transportation Engineer will represent the Authority when participating in meetings with contractors, consultants, and working with representatives from other Federal, State, Regional and local agencies. The Senior Transportation Engineer will prepare correspondences between contractors, consultants, and other stakeholders, regarding technical engineering issues.

Location

This is a statewide recruitment. Positions may be filled in any of the following High-Speed Rail Authority office locations. Selected candidates will be assigned to the office location closest to their home.
