Job summary

Employnet Workforce Management seeks an experienced Engineering Team Lead to provide technical leadership for complex electrical design and construction projects in San Jose, California. You will manage engineering teams, oversee resources, and support design-build initiatives from concept through completion.

The ideal candidate holds a U.S.-based PE license, has 8+ years in electrical engineering and construction, and excels at mentoring staff, coordinating with clients and regulatory agencies,

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • 8+ years of engineering experience.
  • Active U.S.-based Professional Engineer (P.E.) license required.
  • Strong background in electrical systems design and engineering management.
  • Experience supporting commercial construction or design-build projects.
  • Field experience with electrical installations preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical leadership and engineering oversight for assigned projects.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop Engineers, Designers, and Modeling staff.
  • Review project requirements and develop engineering scopes, budgets, and design fees.
  • Prepare and manage engineering work plans, schedules, and resource allocation.
  • Oversee engineering deliverables to ensure quality, accuracy, and compliance with project requirements.
  • Collaborate with Project Managers, clients, owners, and internal teams regarding project expectations, deliverables, and timelines.
  • Identify additional project needs and support development of change requests or additional service proposals.
  • Lead engineering coordination efforts and support design-build project execution.
  • Resolve complex engineering challenges involving design requirements, materials, coordination, and system integration.
  • Coordinate project requirements with city, state, county, and other regulatory agencies.
  • Participate in design meetings with project stakeholders and construction teams.
  • Conduct jobsite visits to evaluate installations, field conditions, and project progress.
  • Perform value engineering studies to improve project efficiency and cost effectiveness.
  • Serve as Engineer of Record for assigned projects.
  • Support staff development, training, and career advancement planning.

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced Engineering Team Lead to provide technical leadership, project oversight, and engineering team management for complex electrical design and construction projects. This role is responsible for leading engineering teams, managing project resources, supporting design-build initiatives, and ensuring successful project delivery from concept through completion.

The ideal candidate is a licensed Professional Engineer with strong electrical engineering expertise, proven leadership experience, and the ability to manage technical teams while delivering innovative, cost-effective solutions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide technical leadership and engineering oversight for assigned projects.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop Engineers, Designers, and Modeling staff.
  • Review project requirements and develop engineering scopes, budgets, and design fees.

Qualifications
Required
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university in:
    • Electrical Engineering
    • Architectural Engineering
    • Construction Sciences
    • Related engineering discipline
  • Minimum 8 years of engineering experience.
  • Active U.S.-based Professional Engineer (P.E.) license required.
  • Strong background in electrical systems design and engineering management.
  • Experience supporting commercial construction or design-build projects.
  • Field experience with electrical installations is strongly preferred.
Technical Knowledge & Skills

The successful candidate should have strong knowledge of:

  • Electrical engineering principles and calculations, including:
    • Load calculations
    • Equipment layouts
    • Normal and emergency power distribution
    • High voltage (HV) and medium voltage (MV) distribution systems
    • Lighting design and calculations
    • Power and lighting controls
    • Utility coordination
    • Grounding systems
    • Value engineering
    • Applicable electrical codes and standards
  • Electrical system testing and commissioning processes.
  • Electrical system studies, including:
    • Short circuit analysis
    • Overcurrent protection coordination
    • Arc flash studies
    • Voltage drop calculations
    • Underground thermal calculations
  • Electrical construction methods and how design documents translate into field installation.
  • Local, state, and national building codes.
