Job summary

Aerotek in Carlsbad, CA, is seeking an Engineering Support Technician for a 6-month contract. The role focuses on hands-on building, testing, and validating electro-mechanical prototype systems in an on-site manufacturing/engineering lab.

You will work closely with engineers to support design verification, perform calibration, troubleshooting, and data collection to keep new products on track. Prior assembly, test, and schematic-reading skills are essential.

Qualifications

  • Troubleshooting with minimal supervision.
  • Strong electro-mechanical assembly experience.
  • Ability to read schematics and technical documentation.
  • Comfortable running calibration, testing, burn-in and integration activities.

  • Build complete machines from subassemblies for the main assembly and production line.
  • Perform calibration, integration, testing, and troubleshooting.
  • Bridge between production and engineering when needed.
  • Follow work instructions and SOPs with limited oversight.
  • Work from schematics and plans to perform testing and checkout.
  • Conduct engineering tests to collect data and support research.
  • Perform operational tests and fault isolation on systems.
  • Assist in remedying malfunctions and in designing test equipment.
  • Use test equipment such as oscilloscopes and signal generators.

Job Title: Engineering Support Technician

Job Description

The Engineering Technician will support engineering activities including design, testing, check-out, modification, fabrication, and assembly of prototype electro-mechanical systems. The role involves moderately complex work that requires considerable judgment and initiative in resolving problems and making recommendations.

Responsibilities
  • Support the main assembly and production line by building complete machines from subassemblies.
  • Perform calibration, integration, testing, and troubleshooting.
  • Act as a bridge between production associates and engineering when needed.
  • Follow work instructions and standard operating procedures with limited oversight.
  • Work from schematics, diagrams, written and verbal descriptions, layouts, or defined plans to perform testing, checkout, and troubleshooting functions.
  • Conduct engineering tests and detailed experimental testing to collect design data or assist in research work.
  • Perform operational test and fault isolation on systems and equipment.
  • Assist in determining methods or actions to remedy malfunctions.
  • Assist in the design, construction, test, and check-out of test equipment.
  • Use manufacturing, test, development, or diagnostic equipment, including test programs, oscilloscopes, signal generators, and specialized test apparatus.
Essential Skills
  • Troubleshooting skills with minimal supervision.
  • Strong electro-mechanical assembly experience.
  • Ability to read schematics and technical documentation.
  • Comfortable running calibration, testing, burn-in, and integration activities.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience assembling and building complete machines/systems.
  • 6+ years of relevant technician/assembly experience preferred.
  • Component-level troubleshooting experience is helpful but not required.
  • Degree is not required.

Work Environment

This is an onsite role in a manufacturing and engineering lab environment, requiring frequent hands-on work with electrical systems, moving mechanical parts, and prototype equipment. Occasional lifting up to 50 lbs with assistance may be necessary, and there is exposure to electrical hazards and manufacturing equipment (appropriate safety training provided). The work schedule is 1st shift, 6am-2:30pm, Monday-Friday, with 10-hour days and potential overtime.
