The Electrical Assembly Technician builds industrial machines and control panels for industrial bakery equipment, assembling and wiring electrical components according to detailed specifications, diagrams, and standards. This role combines hands-on fabrication, precise electrical wiring, and troubleshooting in a dynamic manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

  • Build industrial machines and control panels for industrial bakery equipment according to engineering specifications and standards.
  • Assemble a wide variety of electrical components onto back panels and equipment with high attention to detail and quality.
  • Wire electrical components per given specifications, wiring diagrams, and schematics, ensuring compliance with NEC code and proper wiring techniques.
  • Run and bend 1/2" to 1.5" aluminum rigid conduit using appropriate tools and methods.
  • Use wire threaders (both hand and electric) to pull and route conductors through conduit systems.
  • Drill and tap holes in aluminum and other materials to mount electrical components and hardware.
  • Operate angle grinders, plasma cutters, and other power tools safely to support fabrication and assembly tasks.
  • Interpret and follow verbal, written, and drawn instructions, including engineering controls drawings and schematics.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, functional, and safe work area at all times.
  • Perform all assigned tasks within defined timeframes, meeting quality standards while following safety practices, including lock-out/tag-out and other procedures.
  • Report assembly progress clearly and suggest countermeasures to maintain or recover production schedules when needed.
  • Identify and recommend productivity and quality improvements to supervisors and engineers.
  • Assess problematic situations, diagnose potential electrical or mechanical issues, and perform repairs as needed.
  • Safely work with both live wire (up to 575V) and dead wire conditions as required by the job.
  • Operate a fork truck safely when moving materials, equipment, or assemblies.
  • Adhere to all facility safety rules, including use of required personal protective equipment such as ear plugs in designated areas.
  • Support installation of new machines and upgrades to existing equipment as part of ongoing projects.

Essential Skills

  • Previous experience as an electrician, preferably with an original equipment manufacturer (OEM) or in environments involving machine building and control panels.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and engineering controls drawings.
  • Strong electrical aptitude, including sound judgment and proper application of NEC code and wiring techniques.
  • Hands-on experience with electrical wiring, control panels, transformers, PLC-related wiring, and 480V systems.
  • Ability to run and bend aluminum rigid conduit (1/2" to 1.5") and perform related fabrication tasks.
  • Comfort working with a wide variety of hand, electrical, and pneumatic tools, with a clear understanding of which tools are best suited for specific tasks.
  • Ability to comprehend and execute verbal, written, and drawn instructions accurately and consistently.
  • Capability to assess problematic situations, diagnose potential issues, and repair electrical or mechanical problems.
  • Ability to safely work with live and dead wire conditions up to 575V, following established safety procedures.
  • Ability to safely operate a fork truck in a manufacturing environment.
  • Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform kneeling, squatting, bending, and standing for extended periods.
  • Comfort working in typical manufacturing conditions, including periods of higher noise and non-climate-controlled areas.
  • Demonstrated success in residential or commercial electrical work or similar environments involving wiring and fabrication.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Trade school education with an electrical focus or equivalent technical training.
  • Relevant electrical experience in machine building, control panel assembly, or industrial equipment.
  • Experience in environments emphasizing fabrication and wiring for industrial control panels.
  • Familiarity with blueprint reading and the ability to interpret detailed technical drawings.
  • Experience with machine building and assembly, including use of power tools and fabrication equipment.
  • Exposure to PLC-based control systems and industrial control panel layouts.
  • Background as a residential or commercial electrician, with a desire to transition into industrial controls and machine building.
  • Comfort working with hand tools, power tools, and pneumatic tools such as grinders and plasma cutters.
  • Ability to thrive in a team-oriented environment with tenured technicians and engineers.
  • Willingness to work overtime, including occasional Saturdays, to support production needs.

Why Work Here?

You will join a highly experienced and long-tenured team where many colleagues have 30 to 40 years in the industry, providing exceptional mentorship and on-the-job training. The facility regularly installs new machines and upgrades equipment, offering continuous exposure to modern technology and challenging projects. There is clear opportunity to grow into higher-level controls technician roles or field technician positions, supporting long-term career development. A strong benefits package and stable work schedule help support work-life balance while you build your skills in a supportive, professional environment.

Work Environment

The role is based in a very clean manufacturing facility with two main areas, with most work performed indoors (approximately 95%) and occasional work outdoors (about 5%). The facility is heated in the winter but not air conditioned in the summer, so temperatures can vary with the seasons. Employees typically work on concrete floors and must be able to stand for at least eight hours, with tasks that may require kneeling, squatting, bending, and standing for extended periods. The environment can occasionally be loud, especially near grinding or machine testing operations, and ear plugs are provided and required in posted areas. Work involves both live wire (up to 575V) and dead wire conditions, with live wire representing less than 20% of normal work and strict adherence to safety procedures such as lock-out/tag-out. The standard shift runs from 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., with potential extension to 3:00 p.m. or 4:00 p.m. as needed, and overtime may be scheduled on Saturdays. Dress is typical for an industrial manufacturing setting, with appropriate safety gear and personal protective equipment required for specific tasks.
