Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories (SEL) is seeking an Engineering Support Specialist I to join the Process Engineering team in Manufacturing Operations in West Lafayette, Indiana. The role involves basic testing, services, or troubleshooting of SEL products under guidance from experienced staff.

Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories (SEL) is looking for someone to join our Process Engineering team in Manufacturing Operations as an Engineering Support Specialist I in West Lafayette, Indiana. If you are looking to grow your career and are motivated by solving meaningful problems, As an Engineering Support Specialist I you'll be responsible for completing basic testing, services, or troubleshooting of SEL products and processes in accordance with defined procedures under the direction of more experienced staff. This position requires strong collaboration, a composed demeanor, technical proficiency, and a continuous improvement mindset to enhance product quality, operational efficiency, and customer support.
A typical day as an Engineering Support Specialist I might include: Providing status updates to SEL staff and customers. Communicating effectively with team and internal partners and customers. Following department processes while communicating opportunities for improvement to documentation or work instructions. Representing your team by participating in collaborative improvement efforts. Developing basic proficiency in the activities required to support one of the Operation Team's disciplines (i.e. Flowline product failures, Product Hospital, test infrastructure support, or Test Lab), or R&D's disciplines (i.e. Lab Support, Product Test, Infrastructure, or Compliance). Learning and applying SEL Values, Principles of Operation, and World Class Manufacturing Principles.
Process Engineering and Maintenance teams focus on optimizing manufacturing performance by improving equipment reliability, reducing unplanned downtime, and increasing operational efficiency. Working closely with engineers, technicians, and operators, they support process improvement, root cause analysis, and preventive and predictive maintenance initiatives that help Manufacturing Operations make informed decisions and solve problems proactively.
SEL designs, manufactures, and supports products and systems that protect, monitor, control, and automate electric power systems. Must be willing and able to travel during the first 4-6 months of employment for training, totaling approximately 8-12 weeks in two-week increments.
