Engineering Specialist - CNC Lead Machinist

POSITION SUMMARY:

This role involves leading CNC machining activities, providing technical guidance, and supporting engineering projects within our manufacturing operations. The Engineering Specialist will oversee CNC machine operations, ensure quality standards, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to optimize machining processes.

Washing Systems, LLC (WSI) is the largest supplier of laundry chemicals to the commercial laundry industry in North America. Reporting to the Director of Engineering, the Engineering Specialist is a key member of the Engineering/Equipment Department with responsibilities, including, but not limited to, equipment activities, engineering projects, and providing expert technical guidance.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS:

  • Design and document fixtures, parts, SOPs, and training materials.
  • Accurately record setup, production details, deviations, and adjustments.
  • Maintain detailed records for traceability and future reference.
  • Identify and resolve machine issues, including tooling, programming, or mechanical problems.
  • Install, test, operate, maintain, and repair CNC equipment.
  • Machine parts to specifications and ensure quality control for inventory supply.
  • Consult with customers, vendors, and technicians to resolve issues and coordinate resources.
  • Assist engineering and manufacturing teams with daily activities.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree or technical training in Mechanical Engineering, CNC, or related field, with 1-2 years of experience. Equivalent military experience with 4+ years or high school diploma with 8+ years of applicable experience will also be considered.
  • Strong communication, critical thinking, and organizational skills.
  • Proficient computer skills and ability to work independently.
  • Experience with hand tools and motorized tools.
  • Teamwork, collaboration, and communication skills.
  • Experience with HAAS and MasterCam CNC software.

Preferred Experience:

  • HAAS 5-axis programming and operation.
  • MasterCam or similar CNC design software.
  • VCarve software proficiency.
  • Strong documentation skills.
  • Attention to detail and team orientation.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Visual acuity, including close and distance vision, and ability to differentiate colors.
  • Frequent sitting, manual dexterity, and communication.
  • Overnight travel up to 10%.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Office environment with moderate noise levels.
  • Occasional extreme heat conditions.
  • Indoor customer sites with potential high noise levels.
  • Use of PPE at customer sites may be required.
