Every day, our products move millions of people as we aim to make driving safer, smarter, and more connected, shaping the future of transportation on a global scale.

The Role

The Engineering Specialist supports supplier execution, commercial coordination, performance visibility, and standardized work across manufacturing-related supplier activities. Working closely with suppliers and cross-functional partners, this role helps drive supplier performance, reduce risk, and strengthen operational discipline through data-driven analysis, issue resolution, and execution support. This position serves as a key partner to leadership by providing actionable insights, tracking supplier commitments, identifying execution gaps, and improving governance and reporting processes that support launch, quality, cost, and production objectives. This role requires approximately 25–50% local travel to support supplier and manufacturing activities. Most travel is within a 25-mile radius of the Warren, MI area and involves regular visits to supplier locations for collaboration, issue resolution, and execution support.

What You’ll Do
  • Support supplier execution and issue resolution by tracking actions, identifying risks, and driving timely follow-through.
  • Audit supplier performance, deliverables, and execution plans to ensure alignment with GM requirements and business objectives.
  • Review supplier pricing submissions, scope details, and commercial inputs to identify risks, inconsistencies, and improvement opportunities.
  • Develop and maintain dashboards, reports, scorecards, and tracking tools that provide visibility into supplier performance and issue resolution.
  • Support supplier reviews and governance forums by preparing data, documenting actions, monitoring commitments, and escalating critical issues.
  • Partner directly with suppliers and internal stakeholders to improve accountability, schedule adherence, data quality, and execution discipline.
  • Collaborate with Purchasing, Engineering, Manufacturing, Finance, Quality, and Plant teams to align technical and commercial priorities.
  • Analyze manufacturing tooling, production readiness plans, and supplier execution strategies to identify risks and recommend corrective actions.
  • Drive continuous improvement of standardized work, processes, templates, governance tools, and reporting methods.
  • Communicate concise status updates, key risks, and recommendations to support leadership decision-making.
Your Skills and Abilities (Required Qualifications)
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Supply Chain, Business, Finance, or a related field.
  • In lieu of a degree, candidates with significant relevant experience in manufacturing, tooling, supplier management, purchasing, quality, launch, or engineering environments will also be considered.
  • Experience working with suppliers in a manufacturing, tooling, launch, purchasing, supplier quality, or production environment.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills, including data analysis, reporting, and development of tracking tools.
  • Advanced Power BI experience, including dashboard creation, data visualization, and performance reporting.
  • Working knowledge of General Assembly manufacturing processes, tooling, equipment, and execution activities.
  • 5 years of General Assembly tooling and equipment experience OR equivalent experience supporting Body Shop, automation, or manufacturing engineering operations.
  • Basic understanding of controls, robotics, automation systems, and plant-floor equipment.
  • Working knowledge of SAP.
  • Basic familiarity with Teamcenter and NX.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with a high degree of ownership, initiative, and accountability.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to influence and collaborate across multiple functions without direct authority.
  • Ability and willingness to work onsite five days per week and travel as business needs require.
  • Ability to synthesize technical, operational, and commercial information into actionable recommendations.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and commitment to execution excellence.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced and evolving environment.
What Will Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)
  • Experience auditing supplier processes, performance metrics, commercial submissions, or execution plans.
  • Experience supporting pricing reviews, quote analysis, cost modeling, or supplier negotiations.
  • Experience developing or improving standardized work, governance processes, reporting tools, or process documentation.
