Job summary

Canam Steel Corporation in South Plainfield, NJ is seeking a cost estimator/engineer to analyze contract drawings, specifications, and documents to prepare accurate cost estimates for steel joist and deck products. You will support CSC sales and customers with value engineering and preliminary design budgets.

The role requires reading and interpreting documents, performing takeoffs, and using AutoCAD, Revit, BlueBeam, and MS Office.

Qualifications

• BS in Civil, Structural or Architectural Engineering; experience may substitute for degree.
• EIT or licensure in the future preferred.
• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret drawings, specifications, and procedures.
• Strong communication skills with customers and teammates.

Responsibilities

• Reviews contract documents to determine material and labor requirements and prepares itemized lists.
• Uses BlueBeam for takeoffs and record of work.
• Inputs takeoff data into pricing software to estimate project costs.
• Designs components using software to meet specs and codes (SJI, SDI, AISC, AWS).
• Verifies steel joist and deck specifications per contract documents.
