Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of CAD/engineering documentation tools such as AutoCAD, Plant 3D, Navisworks.
  • Willingness to travel and relocate for rotations as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Complete rotations and learning objectives while contributing to real project work.
  • Develop P&ID drafting skills including tagging, line numbering, and interpretation.
  • Develop piping drafting and design with equipment layout, routing, and isometrics.
  • Support project teams in project engineering, controls, estimating, or planning.
  • Use CAD and other tools to produce technical documents and deliverables.
  • Participate in meetings, design reviews, site visits, and client interactions.
  • Prepare technical documents, reports, and status updates.
  • Adhere to Shaw procedures, codes, and safe-work practices.

Salary Range: $81,000.00 To $87,000.00 Annually

Summary

The Shaw Engineering Development Program (SEDP) is a 24-month early career rotational program designed to give recent engineering graduates structured, hands‑on exposure to multiple roles, teams, and technologies across Shaw. Participants typically complete four six‑month rotations while contributing to active projects, developing multidisciplinary knowledge, and receiving guidance from experienced engineers and senior leaders. The program is designed to build well‑rounded engineers who understand how engineering, design, fabrication, project execution, and supporting functions work together to deliver successful projects.

Responsibilities
  • Complete assigned rotations and learningobjectiveswhile contributing to real project work, deliverables, schedules, quality requirements, and team commitments.
  • Develop P&ID drafting skills, including process-flow interpretation, equipment and instrument tagging, line numbering, drawing symbology, change management, and multidisciplinary coordination.
  • Develop pipingdesign skills using 2D and 3D tools, including equipment layout, piping specifications, routing, supports, material takeoffs, orthographic drawings, and isometrics.
  • Complete an engineeringdisciplinerotation based on business needs, qualifications, interests, and available project assignments.
  • Support project teams through assignments in project engineering, project controls, estimating, planning, construction support, or related projectdelivery functions.
  • Use CAD, modeling, visualization, calculation, document-management, and other engineering toolsappropriate toeach assignment.
  • Participate in project meetings, design reviews, interdisciplinary checks, site visits, inspections, and client or vendor interactions when assigned.
  • Prepare clear technical documents, reports, calculations, drawings, presentations, status updates, and other rotation deliverables.
  • Apply Shaw procedures, company values, applicable codes and standards, client requirements, quality expectations, and safe‑work practices.
  • Build effective working relationships across disciplines, departments, locations, and global or functional teams whileseekingand applying feedback.
  • Demonstrate initiative, adaptability, attention to detail, problem solving, communication, teamwork, and a strong commitment to continuous learning.
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical, Electrical, Process, Chemical, Civil, Structural, or another relevant engineering discipline from an accredited program.
  • Recent graduate or early‑career engineer with zero to two years of relevant experience; internships, co‑ops, research, or project‑team experience are preferred.
  • Foundational understanding of engineering principles and the ability to apply academic knowledge to practical project assignments.
  • Working knowledge of CAD, modeling, calculation, or engineering‑documentation tools; experience with AutoCAD, Plant 3D, Navisworks, or similar platforms is helpful.
  • Strong analytical, problem‑solving, organizational, technical‑writing, presentation, communication, and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to manage changing priorities, learn new disciplines and systems, and work effectively in an accelerated development environment.
  • Willingness and ability to travel,participatein site or fabrication‑shop assignments, andrelocateor accept rotational assignments as business needs require.
Program Structure and Completion
  • Program duration is 24 months and normally includes four rotations, with each rotation typically lasting six months.
  • Rotations may include P&ID drafting, piping drafting and design, engineering discipline, and project execution functions.
  • Participants are paired with experienced leaders or mentors for technical guidance, feedback, professional development, and career support.
  • Progress is evaluated throughout the program against critical success factors, including communication, analytical ability, problem solving, teamwork, adaptability, attention to detail, and passion for learning.
  • Successful completion includes required learning assessments and a post‑SEDP interview to review experience, interests, career goals, available opportunities, and placement preferences.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to reach, stand, walk, use fingers, grasp, feel, talk, hear, see, and perform repetitive motions.
  • Sedentary work: exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of forcefrequentlyor constantly lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time.
