About the Role
Future Forward is hiring accomplished research mentors for Mechanical Engineering and/or Aeronautical Engineering research projects. These mentors will guide school students in designing and executing high-quality science fair and research projects that can compete in national and international levels. This is a unique opportunity to inspire and nurture the next generation of innovators while applying your expertise in science and engineering to hands‑on mentorship.
Responsibilities
- Mentor students (grades 6-12) through the end-to-end research process, including:
- Brainstorming to identify meaningful research questions
- Helping them structure their hypotheses and methodologies
- Overseeing experimentation, data collection, and analysis
- Guidance in manuscript writing, poster preparation, and presentations
- Providing constructive feedback that helps students elevate their projects to be competitive in regional, state, and national science fairs.
- Encouraging scientific curiosity, creativity, and ethical research practices.
- Adapt mentoring style to suit diverse student backgrounds and levels of experience.
Required Qualifications
- PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Aeronautics or Aerospace Engineering
- Master of Science from a reputed university
- Experience mentoring students in STEM research (experience with science fairs, labs, or academic supervision highly valued)
- Strong communication skills with the ability to simplify complex concepts for high school students
- Passion for mentoring and empowering young researchers
