Job summary

Swyft Fiber is seeking an Engineering Project Manager to review and prepare fiber optic construction projects before production, bridging engineering design and field execution. You will evaluate designs, resolve issues, and coordinate with engineering, project management, and field teams to ensure readiness for deployment.

The role requires 5+ years in fiber optic engineering or telecom construction, travel to project sites, and ability to work 24/7 during outages.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Telecommunications, Engineering, Construction Management, or related field preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in fiber optic engineering, telecommunications construction, or project management.
  • Strong understanding of fiber optic network design, splice diagrams, and OSP construction practices.
  • Experience working with IQGEO, GIS, Ocius-X, or similar telecom project systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to evaluate engineering designs and identify potential construction issues.
  • Strong project management, coordination, and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

  • Review fiber optic network designs, splice diagrams, and construction drawings to ensure readiness for construction.
  • Evaluate engineering packages to identify design conflicts, constructability issues, or missing information.
  • Collaborate with engineering, project management, and field teams to resolve design concerns.
  • Provide technical feedback to engineering teams and support design revisions.
  • Manage the project review process to ensure designs move to production readiness.
  • Track project status and align with construction schedules and program goals.
  • Utilize IQGEO, Ocius-X, GIS, and related systems to review data and documentation.
  • Conduct virtual or field-based reviews to validate design accuracy and site conditions.
  • Support quality control to meet internal standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Communicate readiness, risks, and recommendations to leadership and stakeholders.
  • Perform additional duties to support construction quality and timelines.

Job description

The Engineering Project Manager is responsible for reviewing and preparing fiber optic construction projects prior to production. This role bridges the gap between engineering design and field construction by evaluating project designs, identifying potential issues, and ensuring projects are ready for successful execution.

The position requires strong knowledge of fiber optic engineering, construction practices, and project management to ensure designs are accurate, feasible, and aligned with field conditions before being released to production.

  • Review fiber optic network designs, splice diagrams, and construction drawings to ensure accuracy, feasibility, and readiness for construction.
  • Evaluate engineering packages and project documentation prior to release to production to identify design conflicts, constructability issues, or missing information.
  • Collaborate withengineering, project management, and field teams to resolve design concerns and ensure projects meet operational and construction requirements.
  • Provide technical feedback to engineering teams and support design revisions when field conditions or project requirements require adjustments.
  • Manage the project review process to ensure designs move efficiently from engineering review to production readiness.
  • Track project status, review timelines, and ensure projects remain aligned with construction schedules and program goals.
  • Utilize IQGEO, Ocius-X, GIS, and related systems to review project data and ensure accurate documentation.
  • Conduct virtual or field-based reviews as necessary to validate design accuracy and site conditions.
  • Support quality control initiatives by ensuring projects meet internal standards, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices.
  • Communicate project readiness, risks, and recommendations to leadership and project stakeholders.
  • Perform additional duties assigned to support construction quality, project timelines, and operational needs.
Job Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Telecommunications, Engineering, Construction Management, or related field preferred.

  • Must be able to travel as needed to various project sites and markets, which may require long hours and flexibility in schedule.
  • Ability to respond to the needs of a 24/7/365 operation.
  • Must be able to work emergency schedules during natural disasters and network outages.
  • Individuals must have a valid driver's license and clean driving record meeting the company and insurance policy conditions.

Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds several times a day.
  • Overhead lifting of over 20 pounds.
  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time on varied surfaces.
  • Ability to climb and work at elevations (i.e., ladders, poles, lift trucks) exceeding 18 feet.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces (i.e., attics, crawl spaces, utility holes).
  • Ability to walk, bend, kneel, and stand for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift and carry locating equipment as required.
  • Ability to work in all weather conditions.
  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time on varied surfaces.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, and sit; climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
