Job summary

Syngenta Seeds seeks a skilled Project Engineer to lead capital investment programs, coordinating internal teams and external contractors to deliver assets on time and within budget. You will work with owners to refine scope, manage risks, and ensure HSE compliance across all project phases.

The role requires a BS in engineering and at least 5 years of experience in manufacturing or construction environments, with strong cost estimation and scheduling capabilities.

Qualifications

• BS in chemical/industrial engineering or equivalent.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in engineering/capital projects.
• Experience on operational manufacturing sites and construction.
• Leadership of internal and external project teams.
• Understanding of safety, cost tracking, and schedule management.

Responsibilities

• Directly manage capital projects and define delivery strategies.
• Shape project scope with owners and handle ambiguity in TOs.
• Define, estimate, and report safety, costs, and progress.
• Prepare applications for engineering capital approvals and close-out reports.
• Ensure integration between commissioning and construction phases.
• Develop understanding of seed project engineering needs across units.
• Provide solutions for AI/Seeds/GE projects as needed.
• Support annual and 5-year capital/expense planning with cost estimates and schedules.

Role purpose

Deliver Part Of The Syngenta Capital Investment Program By

• Direct management of engineering capital and significant repair and maintenance projects; ensuring the timely implementation of new or improved assets consistent with business requirements and within agreed cost and safety parameters.
• Providing expert advice and direction to others by the timely application of technical and/or project management professionalism at key points in the project process.
• Through close liaison with finance, Procurement, legal, SPR, process engineers, automation engineers and key stakeholders, ensure that capital projects use fit-for-purpose engineering solutions and meet Syngenta HSE requirements.

Job Description

Through a clear understanding of the business strategy, intent, or requirements:

• Manage projects directly: Agree, set, and achieve challenging success criteria for projects and formulate and deliver project execution strategies to achieve delivery through a project team composed mainly of third parties (e.g. Syngenta staff, design and construction contractors and equipment suppliers)
• Work with project owners to shape project scope. This often requires holding large areas of ambiguity before a project scope is finalised in a Terms of Reference
• Define, estimate, deliver, track, and report safety, costs, and physical progress of individual capital projects
• Prepare robust, timely applications for engineering capital approvals and project completion reports
• Ensure full integration between commissioning and start-up activities and the design and construction phases of projects
• Develop an in-depth understanding of the engineering requirements for seed projects (R&D, P&S, VEG, and other business units of the company)
• Provide cutting-edge engineering solutions for use throughout Syngenta. A particular engineering specialism (e.g., AI Projects, Seeds Projects, GE Projects)
• Provide support for both annual and 5-year capital & expense planning for local sites and business units, including cost estimates, business case development, and schedule development

Qualifications

• University degree (BS min or equivalent) in chemical/industrial engineering, electrical engineering mechanical engineering, agricultural engineering/biology/agronomy/food science
• At least 5 years of experience
• Demonstrates experience in operational manufacturing sites and construction
• Leading a high-performance project team of internal and external resources
• Engineering for a range of facility types (e.g., manufacturing, processing, commercial, laboratory)
• Country legal and compliance requirements
• Understanding risk in engineering activity
• Setting appropriate standards
• Understanding the external supply base
• Contracting for engineering services
• Management of engineering suppliers and contractors
