Job summary

Syngenta Seeds is seeking an experienced project engineering leader to manage capital projects across seed-related operations. You will oversee scope, cost, safety, and schedule, coordinating with third-party staff and contractors.

You will shape project scopes, prepare approvals, and ensure seamless integration from design through commissioning. Strong experience in manufacturing engineering and supplier management is required.

Qualifications

  • BS minimum in chemical/industrial, electrical, mechanical, agricultural engineering or related fields.
  • At least 5 years of experience in related roles.
  • Experience in operational manufacturing sites and construction.
  • Proven ability to lead internal and external project teams.
  • Engineering work across a range of facility types (manufacturing, processing, lab).
  • Understanding of country legal and compliance requirements.
  • Ability to assess risk in engineering activities.
  • Ability to set and enforce standards.
  • Experience with the external supply base and contracting services.
  • Experience managing engineering suppliers and contractors.

Job Description

Through a clear understanding of the business strategy, intent, or requirements:

  1. Manage projects directly: Agree, set, and achieve challenging success criteria for projects and formulate and deliver project execution strategies to achieve delivery through a project team composed mainly of third parties (e.g. Syngenta staff, design and construction contractors and equipment suppliers)
  2. Work with project owners to shape project scope. This often requires holding large areas of ambiguity before a project scope is finalised in a Terms of Reference
  3. Define, estimate, deliver, track, and report safety, costs, and physical progress of individual capital projects
  4. Prepare robust, timely applications for engineering capital approvals and project completion reports
  5. Ensure full integration between commissioning and start-up activities and the design and construction phases of projects
  6. Develop an in-depth understanding of the engineering requirements for seed projects (R&D, P&S, VEG, and other business units of the company)
  7. Provide cutting-edge engineering solutions for use throughout Syngenta. A particular engineering specialism (e.g., AI Projects, Seeds Projects, GE Projects)
  8. Provide support for both annual and 5-year capital & expense planning for local sites and business units, including cost estimates, business case development, and schedule development

  • At least 5 years of experience
