Job summary

The City of Oxnard’s Community Development Department is seeking a Permit Technician with strong customer service, analytical, and communication skills to join the Community Development team.

This role focuses on providing front counter support, reviewing and issuing permits, and guiding applicants through the permit process while adhering to municipal codes and policies. A background in building/engineering submittals and customer service is preferred.

Qualifications

• Customer service experience handling public inquiries and counter support.
• Ability to review and process permit applications.
• Strong communication of codes, policies, and procedures.

Responsibilities

• Provide front counter support for Building & Engineering Division.
• Review, process, and issue various building and engineering permits.
• Screen plans for accuracy per municipal code and program policies.
• Review minor encroachment permits for right-of-way work.
• Coordinate with engineers, staff, and departments to carry out duties.
• Calculate and collect permit fees for permits and plan checks.
• Engage with the public to answer questions and provide information.
