Job summary

City of Oxnard is seeking a Permit Technician to join the Community Development team. You will provide front counter support, review and issue building and engineering permits, and screen plans for accuracy.

Responsibilities include processing encroachment permits, coordinating with plan check engineers, and answering public inquiries while ensuring compliance with codes and policies. The role requires strong customer service and communication skills and office/field readiness.

Qualifications

• Front counter experience handling inquiries and payments.
• Knowledge of municipal codes and permit processes is preferred.
• Ability to read plans and verify basic utility and site information.

Responsibilities

• Provide front counter support for building and engineering permits.
• Receive, review, and issue building and engineering permits.
• Screen plans for accuracy and completeness per code and policy.
• Process minor encroachment permits for right-of-way work.
• Coordinate with engineers, inspectors, and other departments as needed.
• Calculate and collect permit fees and respond to public inquiries.
