Job summary

Justworks is seeking an Engineering Manager for Workforce Payments in New York City. You will lead a team of engineers, balance hands‑on coding with mentoring, and drive the payroll, money movement, and tax calculation platform forward.

You will partner with product and design to set goals, mentor engineers toward technical excellence, and ensure reliable, scalable delivery in a fast‑growing environment.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of software engineering experience.
• Minimum 1 year managing a team of engineers.
• Ability to prioritize, craft, and achieve plans.
• Strong communication skills with technical and non-technical audiences.
• High levels of empathy and interpersonal skills.
• Solid understanding of core web technologies used in production.

Responsibilities

• Lead a team of engineers as a player‑coach, coordinating projects and priorities.
• Define and execute the team's long‑term strategy and quarterly roadmap.
• Coordinate with product, design, and other teams to capture requirements.
• Mentor engineers to grow technical skills and foster excellence.
• Attract, hire, develop, and retain a high‑performing team.
• Drive technical decision‑making and cross‑team discussions.
• Foster empathy for internal stakeholders to improve user experiences.
• Deliver features for payroll, money movement, and tax calculation products.
