Job summary

Horizon3.ai in the United States is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead the NodeZero Tripwires team. You will set the technical bar, guide architecture, and partner with Product and Attack teams to align on roadmap and ensure reliable, scalable deception solutions.

You will mentor engineers, oversee design reviews, and build durable API contracts while fostering ownership and high-quality delivery in a fast-growing remote cybersecurity environment.

Qualifications

• Experience managing backend, data, or platform engineering teams and shipping through the team.
• Strong fundamentals in backend and distributed systems: data modeling, API design, queues/streams, and tradeoffs between batch and streaming.
• Comfort with modern cloud infrastructure (AWS), containers, and observability tools (Datadog or similar).
• Ability to lead through technical ambiguity and facilitate design discussions.
• Clear written communication: roadmaps, design docs, or postmortems that others read.
• Ownership mindset for day-to-day operations, not just what is shipped.
• Familiarity with deception technology: honeypots, honeytokens, canaries.

Responsibilities

• Own the delivery strategy for Tripwires: decoy and deception development, detection, alerting, and the customer-facing experience around them.
• Partner with Product to sequence the roadmap and expand Tripwires coverage.
• Recruit, mentor, and retain engineers who care about distributed systems craft and the security domain.
• Oversee the design of new tripwire types attractive to attackers and indistinguishable from legitimate assets.
• Invest in operational excellence: SLOs, observability, on-call, and incident response.
• Partner with the Attack team to translate offensive findings into new detection coverage.
• Establish healthy team practices: design reviews, technical writing, API contracts, and durable decision records.
