Canonical's mission is to deliver the world's best open source platform, setting high standards for software security across the OS and related open source infrastructure. With Ubuntu leading in cloud and edge deployments, the role involves helping customers meet security standards such as FIPS, CIS, STIG, FedRAMP, and CRA. The role includes leading security standards development for open source software across various Ubuntu platforms, certifying core components, and guiding development teams in security best practices, especially in cryptography modules (FIPS 140) and system hardening, in collaboration with industry partners like CIS and DISA.

An Engineering Manager is responsible for line management, career guidance, developing engineering talent, representing the team technically, and fostering collaboration with other teams and customers.

What you will do in this role
  • Lead and develop a team of engineers from graduate to senior levels
  • Coach, mentor, and provide career development feedback
  • Identify and measure team health indicators
  • Implement disciplined engineering processes
  • Represent your team and product to stakeholders, partners, and customers
  • Develop and promote excellent engineering and organizational practices
  • Plan and manage progress on goals and projects
  • Support products and customers in meeting security requirements like FIPS, CIS, STIG, FedRAMP, CRA
  • Work on cryptography modules (FIPS 140) and system hardening with industry partners, including CIS and DISA
What we are looking for in you
  • Strong academic background from high school and university or an alternative proven path
  • Undergraduate degree in Computer Science or STEM, or equivalent experience
  • Proven drive and a history of exceeding expectations
  • Excellent communication skills in English
  • Experience in developing and growing engineering talent
  • Organizational skills ensuring timely, high-quality results
  • Professional interaction with colleagues, partners, and community
  • Experience with FIPS/Common Criteria certified products and standards
  • Experience working with DISA-STIG or CIS benchmarks, including audit and remediation tools
  • Passion for software and application security
  • Experience in agile development environments

  • Willingness to travel twice a year for company events
