Job summary

Discord is hiring an Engineering Manager to lead the Safety Infrastructure team in San Francisco. You will oversee three squads—Review, Enforce, and Tooling—and push automation while maintaining precision and controllable costs.

You will collaborate with policy, legal, ML, product, and data science teams, own investigator tooling, and guide regulatory and child-safety compliance as the team grows.

Qualifications

• 5+ years as a software engineer with backend and distributed systems experience.
• 2+ years leading engineers or managing teams.
• Experience shipping production LLM systems with decisions impacting business outcomes.
• Ability to review designs, handle incidents, and work with senior engineers.
• Strong collaboration across policy, legal, ML, data science, and product teams.
• Calm under escalation with ability to meet regulatory timelines.

Responsibilities

• Lead three squads (Review, Enforce, Tooling) through tech leads and set direction.
• Advance automation toward most decisions while preserving precision and recall.
• Rebuild appeals and create tooling that scores quality of decisions.
• Own the investigator tooling to shorten investigations and ensure traceability.
• Address regulatory and child-safety compliance while growing the team.
