Job summary

Spotify is hiring for the Rights Systems team to build the core RightsDB and support rights management for content on the platform. You will mentor a 7–8 person engineering team, guide technical strategy, and partner with product, legal, and rights operations to align roadmaps with regulatory needs.

You will foster a growth‑minded culture, ensure timely feature delivery, and help scale the system as Spotify expands content and user base across North America.

Qualifications

• 1+ years of experience managing software engineering teams in a product-focused, cross-functional setting.
• 5+ years hands-on engineering experience with web, backend, or full-stack development.
• Experience with web technologies, distributed systems, or cloud platforms.
• Able to manage stakeholders from technical and non-technical backgrounds.
• Proven ability to deliver outcomes in a collaborative environment.
• Care about user experience, data accuracy, and system integrity in IP‑sensitive domains.
• Growth mindset and passion for building scalable systems.
• Support and empower your team to do their best work.
• Familiarity with music/media rights or IP‑centric industries.
• Familiarity with content management systems or large-scale data pipelines.

Responsibilities

• Manage and support a team of 7–8 engineers developing the core RightsDB database.
• Support RightsDB work including Publishing Deny List (PDL) and UGC rights ingestion via DDEX.
• Provide mentorship, coaching, and technical guidance aligned to team growth goals.
• Foster a positive, inclusive, and growth‑oriented culture for career development.
• Partner with product management and cross‑functional stakeholders to define scope and roadmap.
• Align business needs with technical implementation and establish squad strategy.
• Manage timelines and ensure reliable feature delivery while scaling ownership.
• Oversee platform operations including performance, security, incident response, and on‑call.
• Encourage experimentation, continuous improvement, and technical ownership.
• Collaborate with legal, rights operations, and content teams to meet regulatory needs.
