Job summary

Lithic is hiring an Engineering Manager to lead the Privacy.com engineering team through its next growth phase. You will manage a nimble team owning the end-to-end product scope, with a hands-on approach and a focus on high-impact work.

You’ll guide multi-month initiatives, ensure reliability in card processing, and collaborate closely with Product and stakeholders while growing the team and maintaining architectural direction.

Qualifications

• Experience leading engineers and growing teams; coaching, feedback, and hiring.
• Strong technical judgment and system design for distributed, high-reliability services.
• Ability to stay hands-on: code, review designs, unblock the team.
• Experience shipping and operating production services with a bias toward reliability.

Responsibilities

• Ensure high reliability and correctness across Privacy.com, including card processing.

• Balance long-term platform investment with near-term product value.
• Improve observability, incident response, and reliability practices.
• Help ramp new team members and recruit top engineering talent.
• Participate in and evolve the team’s on-call rotation.

We are hiring an Engineering Manager to lead the engineering team behind Privacy.com through its next phase of growth. You will lead a nimble team of engineers who own the entire Privacy.com product scope. The stack is primarily NodeJS and DocumentDB on AWS ECS Fargate. This is a player-coach role. We expect you to spend roughly a third of your time hands-on coding while growing the team and keeping it focused on the highest-impact work.

What You’ll Do:

• Lead and grow a team of engineers, owning performance, development, and overall team health
• Stay hands-on, spending roughly a third of your time coding, reviewing designs, and unblocking the team
• Ensure high reliability and correctness across the Privacy.com product, including card processing
• Own multi-month initiatives from planning to launch, partnering with engineers on architectural direction while keeping stakeholders informed and aligned
• Partner closely with Product and cross-functional stakeholders to clarify requirements early and keep engineering time focused on the highest-impact work
• Make thoughtful tradeoffs between long-term platform investment and immediate product value
• Raise the bar on operational excellence: observability, incident response, and pragmatic reliability improvements
• Lead efforts to improve systems, processes, and documentation so new team members can ramp quickly
• Recruit, hire, and retain strong engineering talent
• Participate in and help evolve the team’s on-call rotation

What You Bring:

• Experience managing and growing engineers, including coaching, feedback, and hiring
• Strong technical judgment and system design skills, especially for distributed systems and high-reliability production services
• Comfort staying close to the work, with the ability to code, review designs, and unblock the team
• Experience shipping and operating production services, with a bias toward measurable reliability and pragmatic iteration
• Experience leading a team through large, multi-month projects while balancing long-term investment against near-term delivery
• Experience with NodeJS and AWS (or closely related stacks), and an ability to ramp quickly where the stack is unfamiliar
• Strong cross-functional communication skills and an ability to keep teams aligned under time pressure
• Growth mindset and continuous desire to learn and improve
• An interest in fintech and payments is preferred

The annual US salary range for this role is $169,000 - $265,000 plus equity. This salary range may be inclusive of several career levels at Lithic and will be narrowed during the interview process based on the candidate’s experience and qualifications.

This is a remote position. However, candidates must be located in the United States. We do not offer visa sponsorship or assistance.
