About the role: We are seeking an experienced and motivated Engineering Manager to lead our platform engineering team responsible for designing, building, and maintaining our cloud infrastructure. This role involves overseeing the development of solutions for "Bring Your Own Cloud" (BYOC) deployments, building multi-tenant SaaS platforms, and developing custom Kubernetes operators to automate and enhance our cloud capabilities. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in cloud technologies, Kubernetes, and a proven track record of managing engineering teams in a fast-paced environment.

As an Engineering Manager, you will:

1. Lead our Platform Engineering Team – Lead and magnify the impact of a team of 6-10 skilled individual contributors. Be responsible for ensuring their success, aiding their career growth, and facilitating their technical work.
2. Recruit and Grow Talent – Build a strong engineering team through hiring, mentoring, performance management, and career development initiatives.
3. Build a Great Platform for our products – Ensure our platform supports our customers needs and provides SREs with the tools they need to maintain and observe our products.
4. Raise the Bar on Technical Excellence – Ensure high test coverage, rigorous engineering, stellar documentation, and a consistently high technical bar.
5. Collaborate Across Teams – Collaborate with your team, engineering leadership, and product managers to define Platform roadmaps, prioritize features, and align engineering efforts with business goals.
6. Automate and Optimize – Improve developer workflows through automation, large scale CI/CD, and investments in tooling that maximize productivity and ensure scalability.
7. Ship It! — Regularly ship patch, minor, and major versions of our platform including new cloud provider support and other customer requested offerings, and invest in automation and tooling to make this a breeze.
8. Be a Culture Custodian — Set team culture by example, expanding Ditto's culture of trust, communication, and continual improvement.

Who you are:

1. 2+ years of experience managing teams of software engineers. This includes people-management responsibilities such as hiring, performance management, and career development.
2. 5+ years of technical leadership, including driving best practices, project scoping and design, and providing architectural guidance.
3. A willingness to travel, including internationally, up to once a quarter for team get togethers.
4. Prior experience with cloud platform development (AWS, GCP, Azure) and experience building Kubernetes operators as well as deploying Kubernetes clusters.
5. Excellent leadership skills with a focus on team growth, mentorship, and collaboration.
6. Experience with large scale CI/CD pipelines, automation, and developer tooling & workflows to automate software releases.
7. A strategic, product-oriented mindset, with the ability to balance technical priorities with business needs.
8. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal. As a fully distributed team, async communication is the norm and the development process often includes written architecture and design documents, and as an engineering manager video-based company updates and presentations will be the norm.

Nice to Haves:

1. Experience with a systems language such as Golang, Rust, C/C++
2. Experience building SaaS Platforms, and/or Kubernetes Operators
3. Prior experience leading a team of software engineers with diverse technical expertise across many platforms.
4. Experience managing a remote, globally distributed team.
5. Experience building large scale cloud infrastructure.
6. Experience building Terraform plugins.
