Job summary

Zip is seeking an experienced Infrastructure Engineering Manager to lead the Online Storage team, owning core storage, search, and permissions infrastructure across Zip’s products.

You will drive scalability, reliability, and operational excellence while partnering with Core Infra and product teams in a hybrid work environment to deliver robust data platforms at scale.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of software engineering experience.
• 2+ years of experience managing teams of 6 or more engineers.
• Hands‑on experience building or operating production data infrastructure at scale: relational databases, caching, distributed storage, or search.
• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science or a related technical field.

Responsibilities

• Lead and grow the Online Storage team (doubling in 6 months): coaching, performance, hiring.
• Drive the multi‑cell scalability program (data isolation, regional redistribution, cell provisioning) partnering closely with Core Infra.
• Own reliability and disaster recovery for all core storage systems (Aurora, Elasticache/MemoryDB, DynamoDB, S3, OpenSearch) to defined RPO/RTO targets.
• Set technical direction for the unified search platform and the permissions‑system consolidation.
• Operate as an internal platform partner: triage product‑team needs, set guardrails, balance their velocity against platform stability.
• Own operational excellence: on‑call health, incident response, observability for the data layer.

Your Role

We’re seeking an experienced Infrastructure Engineering Manager to lead our Online Storage team. The Online Storage team is a foundational infrastructure team within Zip's Engineering organization. We own and operate the core storage, search, and permissions infrastructure that powers everything Zip’s product teams build – spanning relational databases (Aurora RDS), caching layers (Elasticache, MemoryDB), DynamoDB, S3, OpenSearch, and the permissions framework that ensures every user sees exactly the data they’re authorized to see.

Salary

The salary range for this role is $250,000 – $300,000. The salary for this position is determined based on a variety of job‑related factors that may include location, relevant experience, education, or particular skills and expertise.
