Job summary

Confidential Recruiting Partners is seeking an Engineering Manager in a hands-on manufacturing environment to lead the design, development, and improvement of linear motion products and assemblies. You will manage projects from concept through production, uphold standards, and provide technical guidance to manufacturing and teams.

The role requires 5–10 years in engineering within manufacturing or automation, strong leadership, and proficiency with CAD/CAM tools.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering is required.
  • 5–10 years of engineering experience in manufacturing, automation, or linear motion systems.
  • Experience with ERP/MRP systems (M2M or similar).
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and project-management abilities.
  • Proficiency with SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Mastercam, or equivalent CAD/CAM tools.

Responsibilities

  • Lead engineering projects from initial concept through production release.
  • Develop and maintain engineering standards, processes, and best practices.
  • Establish engineering priorities and allocate resources to support business objectives.
  • Oversee design, development, modification, and improvement of linear motion products and assemblies.
  • Translate customer requirements into manufacturable mechanical designs.
  • Design and validate new products, custom solutions, and engineered assemblies.
  • Perform performance analysis, troubleshooting, testing, and continuous improvement.
  • Support manufacturing in resolving design, machining, assembly, and production issues.
  • Respond to technical inquiries and support resolution of customer issues.
  • Coordinate project timelines and deliverables across engineering, manufacturing, and operations.
  • Ensure designs meet customer expectations, regulatory requirements, and manufacturing capabilities.
  • Identify opportunities for design, manufacturing, and process improvements.

Job description

Our client is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead the design, development, and improvement of linear motion products, custom mechanical assemblies, and motion-control systems used in industrial and automation applications. This role manages engineering projects from concept through production, maintains engineering standards and documentation, supports manufacturing with technical guidance, and collaborates with customers, suppliers, and internal teams to deliver high-quality engineered solutions. It is a hands-on engineering leadership role within a small manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities:
Engineering Leadership
  • Lead engineering projects from initial concept through production release.
  • Develop and maintain engineering standards, processes, and best practices.
  • Establish engineering priorities and allocate resources to support business objectives.
  • Oversee design, development, modification, and improvement of linear motion products and assemblies.
Product Design & Development
  • Translate customer requirements into manufacturable mechanical designs.
  • Design and validate new products, custom solutions, and engineered assemblies.
  • Perform performance analysis, troubleshooting, testing, and continuous improvement.
  • Support manufacturing in resolving design, machining, assembly, and production issues.
Engineering Documentation & Quality Control
  • Ensure documentation complies with internal quality procedures.
  • Maintain accurate engineering drawings, CAD models, specifications, and BOMs.
  • Manage engineering change requests (ECRs) and engineering change orders (ECOs)
Customer & Sales Support
  • Respond to technical inquiries and support resolution of customer issues.
  • Provide technical support to customers, distributors, and internal sales teams.
  • Participate in customer meetings, application reviews, and technical presentations.
  • Assist with product selection, quotations, special applications, and technical proposals.
Contract Review & Project Management
  • Review customer specifications and technical requirements for custom-engineered assemblies.
  • Coordinate project timelines and deliverables across engineering, manufacturing, and operations.
  • Ensure designs meet customer expectations, regulatory requirements, and manufacturing capabilities.
Process Improvement
  • Identify opportunities for design, manufacturing, and process improvements.
  • Participate in strategic planning for new technologies and product development.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on quality, reliability, and productivity.
Qualifications (Must-Haves)
  • Experience with ERP/MRP systems (M2M or similar)
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Advanced degree or professional certifications are a plus.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and project-management abilities.
  • Understanding of machining, assembly, and manufacturing quality processes.
  • Effective collaboration with customers, suppliers, and cross-functional teams.
  • Engineering leadership or supervisory experience is beneficial but not required.
  • Proficiency with SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Mastercam, or equivalent CAD/CAM tools.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and technical standards.
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline required.
  • Experience with custom machinery, engineered assemblies, or product development strongly preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of linear motion products, bearings, actuators, guides, and motion-control mechanisms.
  • 5-10 years of engineering experience in manufacturing, automation, motion control, or linear motion systems.
