Job summary

EVONA in Austin, TX is seeking a highly technical Engineering Manager to lead a team delivering digital and mixed-signal hardware for aerospace and defense systems. This player-coach role targets Senior, Staff, or Principal engineers stepping into formal people management while staying technically engaged.

You will drive architecture, measurements, and reviews across digital, RF, power, FPGA, firmware, software, and systems engineering, ensuring manufacturing readiness and scalable processes.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of direct digital or mixed-signal hardware experience.
• Strong hands-on schematic and PCB design experience.
• High‑speed digital/mixed‑signal board design.
• FPGA or processor‑based hardware experience.
• Experience with DDR, PCIe, Ethernet, SERDES interfaces.
• Strong signal integrity and timing knowledge.
• Board bring‑up and complex hardware debugging experience.
• DFM/DFT and production‑transition experience.
• Experience leading technical reviews and mentoring engineers.

Responsibilities

• Lead the technical development of high-speed digital and mixed-signal hardware across multiple product lines.
• Drive architecture, schematic, PCB, design and technical reviews.
• Maintain engineering standards for high-speed interfaces, signal integrity, timing, and dense multilayer PCBs.
• Stay hands-on with critical designs, complex debug, board bring-up, and technical problem solving.
• Work across digital, RF, power, FPGA, firmware, software, mechanical, and systems engineering.
• Drive DFM/DFT, manufacturing transition, reliability, and production readiness.
• Establish scalable hardware development processes and design standards.
• Build, mentor, and develop a high-performing hardware engineering team.

• Partner with Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Quality, Operations, and Systems Engineering.

We’re looking for a highly technical Engineering Manager to lead and develop a team working on advanced digital and mixed-signal hardware for next-generation aerospace and defense systems.

This is a player-coach leadership role — ideal for a Senior, Staff, or Principal Electrical/Hardware Engineer who is already leading technically and is ready to take the next step into formal people management.

What You’ll Do

• Lead the technical development of high-speed digital and mixed-signal hardware across multiple product lines

What We’re Looking For

We’re particularly interested in engineers with:

• 7+ years of direct digital or mixed-signal hardware experience
• Strong hands-on schematic and PCB design experience
• High-speed digital / mixed-signal board design
• FPGA or processor-based hardware experience
• Experience with DDR, PCIe, Ethernet, SERDES, or comparable interfaces
• Strong signal integrity and timing knowledge
• Board bring-up and complex hardware debugging experience
• DFM / DFT and production-transition experience
• Experience leading technical reviews and mentoring engineers

Software-defined radio experience is a plus. Aerospace/space experience is valuable, but the role is also open to engineers from other high-reliability electronics environments.
