Job summary

OpenAI is seeking an Engineering Manager for the Client Platform Engineering (CPE) team in San Francisco. You will lead a cross-platform foundation spanning macOS, Windows, iOS, Android, and Linux, focusing on secure, reliable, and low-friction experiences for employees.

This role blends people leadership with strong technical judgment to deliver durable platform outcomes. You will guide strategy, architecture, and operations, shaping how Codex and agents enhance employee computing while

Qualifications

Built and led teams that owned secure, reliable services at scale.
Delivered internal platforms and tools that improved reliability and security.
Deep understanding of architecture, IaC/GitOps, CI/CD, and observability.
Experience with endpoint posture and device trust in enterprise environments.
Willing to join engineering on call rotation after ramp up.

Responsibilities

Lead and develop a high-performing engineering team; hire thoughtfully, coach engineers, create clarity, and foster an inclusive, high-accountability culture.
Define and execute a multi-year client-platform strategy and roadmap across macOS, Windows, iOS, Android, and Linux, including how Codex and agents can reshape employee computing.
Provide technical direction for endpoint posture, device trust, application delivery, device onboarding, updates, fleet telemetry, workflow orchestration, and employee-facing remediation.
Guide architecture and engineering tradeoffs across first-party services, open-source tooling, SaaS platforms, IaC/GitOps, CI/CD, and cloud infrastructure.
Establish clear goals, ownership, planning, design reviews, and execution rhythms that let the team move quickly without sacrificing quality.
Raise the bar for reliability and evidence-backed security through observability, drift detection, staged rollouts, release gates, rollback paths, incident learning, runbooks, and healthy operational ownership.
