Job summary

OpenAI, Inc. is seeking a Software Engineer for the Agent Platform team in San Francisco, CA. You will design and operate scalable backend services that power agent capabilities, enabling code execution, tool use, and external integrations.

The role emphasizes reliability, security, and production readiness, with a hybrid work model and relocation assistance. You will partner with product, research, and infrastructure teams to turn prototypes into production-ready services, owning systems

Qualifications

• Builders of large-scale backend systems or infrastructure; comfortable moving quickly through ambiguity.
• Experience designing APIs and platform abstractions that enable product teams to ship faster.
• Interest in secure execution environments, sandboxing, and production workloads.

Responsibilities

• Build and operate production services that power agent execution and tool use.
• Design APIs and platform abstractions for agent experiences and product teams.
• Develop orchestration systems for agent execution, state, resources, retries, and recovery.
• Improve platform reliability, latency, and efficiency via performance optimization and observability.
• Collaborate with product, research, security, and infra teams to bring agent capabilities to production.
• Own systems through their full lifecycle from design to rollout and operation.
