Job summary

Apple Inc. is seeking an Engineering Manager for Apple Card & Savings in New City, New York.

You will lead a team delivering backend systems powering Apple Card and Apple Savings, spanning Java/Kotlin services, databases, and messaging pipelines, with cross-functional collaboration across product and design teams. You will balance hands-on technical leadership with strategic roadmaps, ensuring high-quality software, scalable performance, and reliable operations for millions of users.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of software engineering experience building and operating large-scale distributed backend systems.
• Proven experience managing and growing a team of software engineers in a fast-paced product.
• Deep expertise in Java or Kotlin, with hands-on experience designing services for scale and performance.
• Strong background in cloud infrastructure, distributed systems, and API design.
• Experience with relational and NoSQL databases and high-throughput messaging systems (e.g., Kafka, SQS, or equivalent).
• Demonstrated ability to drive cross-functional collaboration with stakeholders.
• Track record of delivering high-quality software on time in ambiguous, rapidly evolving environments.
• Exceptional communication skills — able to convey technical complexity clearly to both engineering teams, partners and executive stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Lead, mentor, and grow a team of backend engineers working on Apple Card and Apple Savings features and infrastructure.
• Drive architectural decisions across distributed systems, ensuring solutions meet scale, performance, and reliability requirements.
• Establish engineering best practices around code quality, testing, and operational excellence to support high-stakes financial products.
• Partner with product managers, operations, and cross-functional engineering teams to define technical roadmaps and deliver against them.
• Translate complex business and regulatory requirements into clear, achievable engineering plans.
• Champion a culture of quality — setting high standards for design reviews, code reviews, and incident response organizations.
• Communicate technical strategy, team progress, and risks clearly to senior leadership and partner.
• Recruit, onboard, and retain engineering talent to scale the team effectively.
