Job summary

Apex seeks an Engineering Manager, Bridge Engineering to lead inspection, design, rehabilitation and load rating projects across transportation programs. You will provide technical oversight, mentor staff, and ensure QA/QC across deliverables.

You will serve as senior resource, lead state DOT and municipal projects, collaborate with clients and regulators, and help grow Apex's bridge engineering capabilities across regions.

Qualifications

  • BS in Civil Engineering required.
  • Active PE license preferred.
  • 15+ years bridge engineering experience.

Position Summary

The Engineering Manager, Bridge Engineering serves as a senior technical leader supporting bridge inspection, bridge design, rehabilitation, load rating, quality management, and project delivery activities across transportation infrastructure programs. This position provides technical oversight, mentoring, quality assurance review, and subject matter expertise for bridge engineering projects while supporting project managers, clients, and technical staff throughout all phases of project delivery.

The role is expected to serve as a senior bridge engineering resource with the ability to independently lead inspection programs, provide technical review of structural designs and analyses, support pursuit efforts, and assist in developing transportation and bridge engineering capabilities within the organization.

Key Responsibilities
  • Serve as a senior technical authority for bridge inspection, bridge rehabilitation, bridge replacement, and structural engineering projects.
  • Lead bridge inspection and evaluation efforts for state DOTs, transportation agencies, municipalities, and local government clients.
  • Perform and oversee structural analyses, load ratings, condition assessments, and inspection report development.
  • Provide technical oversight and quality assurance/quality control review of engineering calculations, plans, specifications, reports, and deliverables.
  • Support bridge design projects from preliminary engineering through final design and construction support.
  • Mentor engineers, bridge inspectors, and technical staff through project execution and technical development.
  • Support project managers in staffing, technical execution, risk management, and client coordination.
  • Contribute to proposal preparation, statements of interest, qualifications packages, and transportation pursuits.
  • Collaborate with clients, regulatory agencies, contractors, and internal project teams to deliver successful project outcomes.
  • Provide technical consultation and project support across multiple geographic regions and business units, as needed.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering.
  • Active Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Minimum 15+ years of bridge engineering experience, including bridge inspection and design.
  • Demonstrated experience leading bridge inspection programs and transportation infrastructure projects.
  • Experience performing structural analysis, load ratings, rehabilitation design, and bridge condition assessments.
  • Strong technical writing, communication, and client interaction skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor and provide technical leadership to engineering teams.
  • Working knowledge of applicable bridge inspection and transportation design standards.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Pennsylvania PE registration.
  • Certified Bridge Safety Inspector credentials.
  • Extensive PennDOT bridge inspection and design experience.
  • PA Turnpike bridge inspection and transportation project experience.
  • Experience supporting local agency bridge programs and municipal transportation clients.
  • Experience with bridge management systems, inspection databases, and load rating software.
  • Prior experience serving as a project manager, bridge inspection team leader, or senior technical reviewer.
