What You’ll Do
- Lead a team of 2–4 engineers (junior through senior), owning their day‑to‑day management, growth, and performance.
- Own sprint‑to‑sprint delivery — planning, prioritization, sequencing, and honest communication of scope, timeline, and risk.
- Manage individual performance and development through regular 1:1s, actionable feedback, career growth conversations, and the harder conversations when they’re needed.
- Contribute hands‑on to the codebase where it adds the most leverage — typically the ambiguous, load‑bearing, or unblocking work — while deliberately leaving well‑scoped growth opportunities to the team.
- Partner with Product, Design, and peer engineering teams to align on priorities, resolve dependencies, and translate business goals into deliverable work.
- Own team health and operational quality, including on‑call, incident response, and a real quality and compliance bar in a regulated, money‑touching domain.
- Cultivate a collaborative, continuous learning, and inclusive team culture.
- Champion high‑leverage, AI‑forward ways of working that raise the team’s throughput without compromising quality.
- Remove blockers, shield the team from unnecessary noise, and create the conditions for engineers to do their best work.
What We’re Looking For
- Experience leading and managing a small engineering team, or a technical lead / player‑coach ready to formalize into people management.
- Still technically hands‑on and credible — able to review, contribute to, and make sound decisions within a modern TypeScript codebase.
- Strong people‑leadership skills: coaching, feedback, performance management, and developing engineers across levels.
- Solid delivery management: decomposing work, sequencing, managing dependencies and risk, and communicating status honestly.
- Clear communicator with both technical and non‑technical stakeholders; comfortable managing up, across, and outward.
- Comfortable with ambiguity and a lean operating model; biases toward leverage and automation over headcount.
- Remains hands‑on within our primarily TypeScript‑based stack spanning API services and full‑stack web applications.
- Working knowledge of cloud infrastructure (AWS), infrastructure‑as‑code, and CI/CD automation.
- Familiar with observability/APM and incident‑response tooling; upholds operational and quality standards for a regulated, money‑touching product.
- Leverages AI tooling to increase team throughput and reduce toil.
