Job summary

Mercury is building the banking core to support customer accounts at scale. As an engineering manager, you will lead a team of 4 to 8 senior engineers to deliver high-availability banking services and partner across product, policy, and operations to ensure reliability and usability.

You will translate direction into measurable goals, create a predictable delivery system, and uphold rigorous testing and governance for AI-assisted development, while mentoring engineers and fostering their growth

Qualifications

• Demonstrated ability to lead a technical team.
• Experience building or operating reliable financial systems.
• Comfort across product, policy, infrastructure, and operations.
• Ability to turn ambiguous problems into clear decisions, owners, and execution plans.
• Strong technical judgment and system design depth.
• Experience developing senior engineers and creating leadership opportunities.

Responsibilities

• Lead a team of 4 to 8 senior engineers to deliver high-availability banking services.
• Translate company and product direction into clear, measurable team objectives.
• Build a predictable delivery system that makes progress, risks, and tradeoffs visible.
• Balance customer-facing improvements with platform reliability, operational readiness, and long-term maintainability.
• Partner with Product, Design, Risk, Compliance, and Operations to make Mercury's banking products reliable, understandable, and useful.
• Hire and onboard engineers while maintaining a consistent, high-quality interview process.
• Hold the team accountable for using AI-assisted development responsibly, with testing, evaluation, review, and production safeguards.
• Give clear, useful feedback to engineers at every level.
• Create an environment where engineers can do their best work and grow their technical and leadership skills.
