Job summary

Mercury is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead a team of 4–8 senior engineers building high-availability banking services. You will translate strategy into team objectives and create a predictable delivery system, balancing new features with reliability and long-term maintainability.

You will collaborate with Product, Design, Risk, Compliance, and Operations to make Mercury’s banking products reliable and understandable, while hiring, mentoring, and ensuring responsible AI usage across

Qualifications

• Proven ability to lead a technical team.
• Experience building or operating reliable financial or high-integrity systems.
• Comfort working across product, policy, infrastructure, and operations.
• Able to turn ambiguous problems into clear decisions, owners and execution plans.
• Strong technical judgment and deep engagement with system design and implementation.
• Experience developing senior engineers and creating opportunities for engineers to lead.
• Care deeply about correctness, reliability, customer experience and operational excellence.
• Familiarity with Haskell and TypeScript, or eagerness to learn.

Responsibilities

• Lead a team of 4 to 8 senior engineers to deliver high-availability banking services.
• Translate company and product direction into clear, measurable team objectives.
• Build a predictable delivery system that makes progress, risks, and tradeoffs visible.
• Balance customer-facing improvements with platform reliability and maintainability.
• Partner with Product, Design, Risk, Compliance, and Operations for reliable banking products.
• Hire and onboard engineers while maintaining a high-quality interview process.
• Ensure responsible use of AI-assisted development with testing and safeguards.
• Provide clear feedback to engineers and foster growth.
