Job description

At Lyft, our mission is to serve and connect. Fleets is a dynamic area working with 3rd-party partners to match autonomous, livery, and taxi fleets with the Lyft marketplace; managing programs for special vehicles like Express Drive rentals, electric, and premium vehicles; and crafting tooling for on-the-ground fleet operations.

As an Engineering Manager on Global Growth, you’ll be responsible for setting the technical direction for the team, making tradeoffs between technical investments and product features, and communicating strategy transparently to your team and leadership. You will help shape the product direction by developing a deep understanding of the customer and working closely with cross-functional partners across Product, Design, Science, and Operations. You will lead a group of backend and mobile engineers, fostering business impact while driving continuous experimentation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Team Leadership & Mentorship: Lead, mentor, and guide the professional and technical development of a team of backend and mobile engineers. Tailor career development, project assignments, and goals to each engineer's strengths and aspirations.
  • Technical Strategy & Vision: Set the overarching technical vision and architecture strategy for an evolving product area, balancing fast shipping with sustainable, scalable software.
  • Product & Cross-Functional Co-Ownership: Co-own product strategy with Product partners, ensuring high-quality and timely delivery of engineering solutions in complex, ambiguous domains.
  • Resource & Process Management: Prioritize technical, architecture, and resourcing challenges, instilling continuous improvement principles across team processes and codebases.
  • Inclusive Culture & Hiring: Build inclusive, respectful, and highly collaborative team cultures while partnering with Lyft’s recruiting team to hire high-potential candidates.
  • Operational & Scalability Ownership: Own product deliverables to ensure systems scale reliably, stay highly available, and delight fleet partners and drivers.
Requirements

  • 2+ years of dedicated people management experience leading software engineers.

Leadership & Engineering Capabilities
  • Strong technical background with the ability to actively contribute to architectural planning and design reviews.
  • Proven track record of guiding teams through planning, prioritization, execution, and driving projects to completion in cross-functional settings.
  • Demonstrated success in mentoring, building trust, motivating engineers, and fostering a strong sense of ownership.
  • Deep customer-focused mindset with experience building scalable engineering platforms and products for the future.
