Job summary

Amazon’s AWS SDKs and Tools team in New York seeks a Software Development Manager to lead a hands-on, high-performing group of engineers. You’ll set technical direction, own the SDK roadmap, and collaborate with customers and internal teams to balance feature delivery with long-term maintainability.

You’ll mentor engineers, drive code quality, and advocate for open-source collaboration while shaping a culture of ownership and accountability in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Lead, hire, and develop a team of about 8-12 software engineers, and build a culture of ownership, high standards, and continuous learning.
• Grow engineers across the career ladder, including SDE I to SDE II and SDE II to Senior SDE promotions, and give every engineer clear, actionable feedback.
• Own the roadmap for your SDK portfolio by working backwards from customer feedback, GitHub issues, support cases, and usage data.
• Engage with the open-source community and keep your SDKs responsive, transparent, and trustworthy for developers.
• Make sound tradeoffs among speed, quality, and backward compatibility across a large, generated codebase.]
