Job summary

Anthropic in San Francisco seeks an Engineering Manager to lead research engineers who design and build systems for analyzing large, unstructured datasets and producing structured, trustworthy insights. You will oversee a cross-functional team spanning core analysis frameworks to user-facing apps.

This high-leverage role influences how we measure and mitigate misuse and misalignment, with responsibilities spanning design, recruitment, and strategic direction.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of people management experience.
• 5+ years software engineering with ML exposure.
• Experience with LLM apps (context engineering, evaluation, orchestration).
• Strong UX, reliability, and documentation mindset.
• Ability to switch between deep infra and product thinking.

Responsibilities

• Lead design and implementation of AI-based monitoring systems for AI training and deployment.
• Extend and improve core frameworks for processing large volumes of unstructured text.
• Partner with researchers and safety teams to understand needs and prioritize work.
• Develop agentic integrations for autonomous investigation and action.
• Contribute to strategic direction and hiring decisions for the team.
• Coach and support your reports to grow professionally.
• Run the team's recruiting efforts to scale headcount.
• Design processes that help the team operate effectively.
