Job summary

Descript is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead the Agent team and drive development of the world’s best Agentic Video Editor, Underlord. You will manage a team of 5–6 engineers, report to the Head of AI Engineering, and partner with engineering, product, design, and AI research in San Francisco and beyond.

In this role, you’ll shape direction, mentor engineers, and ensure delivery of high-quality agent-based editing capabilities while navigating rapid AI advancements and market demands.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of software engineering experience, including 2+ years of engineering management delivering complex, cross-functional product work

Responsibilities

• Own execution: prioritize, align stakeholders, adapt plans, and deliver with high quality.
• Define team direction by aligning customer needs, product vision, and technical realities with Product, Design, and AI Research.
• Develop your team: recruit, mentor, grow engineers, provide feedback, and address underperformance early.
• Drive operational excellence: ensure predictability, reliability, and sustainable execution through sound processes.
• Maintain the technical bar: guide architecture, balance tradeoffs, and address tech debt to enable high-quality systems.
