Job description

Icon Health is a leading provider of value-based musculoskeletal (MSK) care, collaborating with payers and providers to enhance outcomes and experience for individuals. The company partners with health plans and risk-bearing providers to assume accountability for reduced total cost of care. By combining technology-enabled MSK providers with proactive care coordination and decision support services, Icon Health delivers multidisciplinary, evidence-based care.

We founded Icon Health on the conviction that every patient should be genuinely delighted with their care experience. By prioritizing patient-centered practices, ensuring clear care goals across the entire clinical team, and placing clinicians at the heart of care delivery, we aim to transform a fragmented system into one that truly serves patients. Our model uses a team-based approach to care, integrating musculoskeletal expertise and primary care to achieve better patient outcomes.

At Icon Health, we foster a culture that embraces bold thinking, rapid iteration, and practical problem-solving. We seek team members who relish challenging the status quo and thrive in vertically integrated roles—where ideas can swiftly move from concept to execution without layers of red tape. Above all, we value individuals who are eager to roll up their sleeves, tackle obstacles head‑on, and create innovative solutions that improve the lives of our patients and our clinical partners.

What You’ll Do:

  • Manage, mentor, and hire software or systems engineers while setting clear performance expectations and growth plans.
  • Ensure all technology, data handling, and software products strictly follow healthcare laws like HIPAA and safety standards
  • Partner with clinicians, product managers, and security teams to turn clinical or operational needs into technical solutions.
  • Continue Build a healthy remote team culture with strong written communication and ownership mindset
  • Oversee complex technology initiatives, manage resource allocation, and track project milestones and budgets.
  • Guide architectural decisions, support cloud infrastructure and SAAS integrations, and maintain high standards for system reliability.
  • Enforce data access and handling standards to encrypt Protected Health Information (PHI) both at rest and in transit, keeping applications compliant with HIPAA.
  • Ensure teams build accessible, intuitive, and responsive UI components that staff can navigate quickly and efficiently during critical patient care.
  • Maintain and optimize the team’s engineering stack
  • Write production code in Python, TypeScript and SQL, and contribute to DBT models and data pipelines
  • Review pull requests and set the bar for code quality, testing and documentation
  • Lead technical design for new services, integrations and data flows
  • Step in on incidents, debugging and on-call escalation when needed
  • Manage automated testing, continuous integration, and deployment pipelines to push application updates without disrupting clinical operations.
  • Report progress, risks and metrics to the CTO and Business Leadership
  • Other Duties As Assigned

What You’ll Bring:

  • 7+ years in software or data engineering, including 2+ years managing engineers
  • Still writing code: strong in Python and SQL, JavaScript/TypeScript
  • Hands‑on experience with a major cloud platform, ideally GCP
  • A track record of putting engineering processes in place (agile delivery, code review, CI/CD) that held up as a team grew
  • Experience automating manual workflows and building internal tools
  • Experience with regulated or sensitive data, and a working understanding of security fundamentals
  • Clear written communication and comfort leading a remote team
  • Sound judgment on build vs. buy, technical debt and trade-offs

Nice to Have:

  • Healthcare experience, including HIPAA, and PHI handling
  • Healthcare data experience such as claims, member, provider or clinical/EHR data, and standards like HL7 or FHIR
  • Experience with SOC 2 or HITRUST controls
