Job summary

Aptiv in Troy, MI is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead multiple engineering teams and drive delivery of product roadmaps across platforms and domains.

You will align priorities, coach leaders, and foster technical excellence while ensuring quality, schedule, and cost targets are met across functions.

Qualifications

  • Engineering degree required (BEng, MSc or PhD).
  • Experience in international automotive/electronics environments preferred.
  • 3-5 years of management experience.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Fluency in English.

Responsibilities

Lead multiple engineering teams and/or Engineering Group Managers to achieve business commitments, customer expectations, and product objectives. Accountable for execution across a product area or engineering domain, the Engineering Manager ensures alignment between roadmap priorities, resource allocation, delivery performance, quality objectives, and organizational capability while developing future leaders and technical excellence within the organization.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Ensure successful execution of engineering commitments, business milestones, and customer deliverables across assigned teams.
  • Monitor delivery performance, quality, predictability, and organizational health through established metrics and dashboards.
  • Drive accountability for execution and ensure teams consistently meet commitments.
  • Escalate and resolve issues impacting delivery, quality, customer satisfaction, or business objectives.
  • Ensure achievement of agreed operational and business plans.
  • Build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders and act as the primary escalation point for organizational and delivery-related matters.
  • Ensure customer expectations are understood and translated into actionable engineering priorities.
  • Maintain effective communication regarding delivery status, risks, dependencies, and mitigation plans.
  • Support stakeholder decision-making through clear reporting and transparent performance metrics.
  • Lead and develop Engineering Group Managers and/or team leaders.
  • Ensure effective allocation of people, skills, and capacity across projects and business priorities.
  • Drive workforce planning activities including hiring, retention, succession planning, and capability development.
  • Identify organizational capability gaps and implement plans to address them.
  • Promote collaboration and alignment across teams, product groups, and functions.
  • Support technology strategy, roadmap execution, and long-term capability development.
  • Ensure teams make appropriate technical investments to support future business needs.
  • Encourage engineering best practices, innovation, reuse, automation, and technical excellence.
  • Partner with technical leaders to balance delivery objectives with technical quality and sustainability.
  • Ensure compliance with engineering processes, standards, and quality requirements.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on efficiency, quality, predictability, and customer satisfaction.
  • Use lessons learned, delivery metrics, and operational insights to improve organizational performance.
  • Establish effective operating mechanisms and review processes to monitor progress and performance.
  • Manage engineering budgets, workforce plans, and resource forecasts within assigned scope.
  • Ensure efficient utilization of engineering resources.
  • Support business planning by aligning capacity with product roadmap and customer commitments.
  • Monitor organizational risks related to staffing, funding, priorities, and delivery capability.
BASIC REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor, Master or PhD degree in Engineering R
  • Several years of professional experience in an international company, preferably in the automotive or electronics industry R
  • 3-5 years of management experience R
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills R

Leadership & Management
  • Bachelor, Master or PhD degree in Engineering R
