Job summary

Paylocity in Rochester, NY is seeking a hands-on Engineering Manager to lead a founding team of early-career engineers. You will mentor technically and professionally, create growth opportunities, and drive performance feedback while building a pipeline with local universities.

The role partners with stakeholders to deliver scalable, secure cloud solutions using .NET/C#, AWS, and AI technologies. You will shape AI Labs strategy and lead cross-functional collaboration.

Qualifications

• BS degree or higher in Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent experience.
• 5+ years of software engineering experience.
• 2+ years in a formal engineering management role.
• Hands-on experience building apps with .NET and C#.
• Experience designing and operating cloud-based AWS solutions.
• Experience applying AI technologies (LLMs) in customer-facing or internal apps.
• Solid experience with agile development and process improvements.
• Proven mentoring and leadership of engineering teams.
• Strong collaboration with Product, Design, and Business units.
• Based in the Rochester, NY area.

• Shape team and AI Labs strategy with leadership; stay current on industry trends.

Requirements

• BS degree or higher in Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent experience


• 5+ years of software engineering experience


• 2+ years in a formal engineering management role


• Hands-on experience building and maintaining applications with .NET and C#


• Hands-on experience designing, developing, and operating cloud-based solutions in AWS


• Experience building applications integrating AI technologies, AI services, LLMs, or other intelligent features into customer-facing or internal applications


• Experience working in agile development environments, including driving process improvements


• Proven experience leading, mentoring, and developing engineering teams


• Strong collaboration skills across Product, Design, and Business functions


• Familiarity with .NET/C#


• Fluent use of frontier AI tools such as Claude, OpenAI, Copilot, or similar


• Based in the Rochester, NY area


• Ability to sit for extended periods, typically 7-8 hours a day


• Ability to operate computer and phone systems and type
