Job summary

Insight Global is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead and develop a team of engineers supporting aerospace, defense, and space manufacturing programs. You will oversee workload planning, technical execution, and resource alignment across programs to ensure engineering efforts support production schedules, development milestones, test objectives, and customer commitments.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
  • 7+ years of engineering experience within aerospace, defense, space, advanced manufacturing, or other highly regulated engineering environments.
  • Experience in Manufacturing Engineering, Structural Analysis, or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Previous experience leading engineers in a formal or informal leadership capacity (Engineering Manager, Team Lead, Supervisor, Technical Lead, Project Lead, etc.)
  • Proven ability to prioritize work, allocate resources, and balance competing program demands.
  • Strong communication skills with experience collaborating across engineering, operations, manufacturing, quality, and leadership organizations.
  • Active Secret Clearance or ability to obtain one.
  • Ability to work onsite full-time in a secure manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of engineers supporting aerospace and defense manufacturing programs
  • Manage engineering priorities, staffing needs, workload balancing, and resource planning across multiple projects
  • Partner with program managers, manufacturing leaders, quality teams, and executive leadership to ensure successful program execution
  • Provide technical guidance and oversight while ensuring engineering quality standards are maintained
  • Support engineering reviews, risk assessments, manufacturing readiness activities, and technical decision making
  • Drive process improvements that improve productivity, quality, communication, and program execution
  • Build a strong engineering culture focused on accountability, professional development, collaboration, and continuous improvement
  • Identify capability gaps within the team and support recruiting, hiring, and onboarding efforts

Salary: $130,000 - $170,000 (Pay commensurate with experience)

Day to Day:

The Engineering Manager is responsible for leading and developing a team of engineers supporting aerospace, defense, and space manufacturing programs. This role oversees workload planning, technical execution, team priorities, and resource alignment across multiple programs to ensure engineering efforts support production schedules, development milestones, test objectives, and customer commitments. The Engineering Manager serves as the primary interface between engineering teams, manufacturing operations, program management, and executive leadership. While this position is not intended to be a day-to-day hands-on contributor, the ideal candidate brings a strong engineering foundation and can effectively review technical work, guide problem solving efforts, mentor engineers, and support critical engineering decisions.

This role is heavily focused on people leadership, including coaching and developing engineers, building high-performing teams, improving engineering processes, and fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement. Candidates may come from a variety of engineering disciplines including design engineering, systems engineering, manufacturing engineering, test engineering, structural analysis, composites engineering, mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or other relevant technical fields.

Key Responsibilities:

Must Haves:

Bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related engineering discipline

7+ years of engineering experience within aerospace, defense, space, advanced manufacturing, or other highly regulated engineering environments

Experience in one or more of the following disciplines:

  • Manufacturing Engineering
  • Structural Analysis
  • Mechanical Engineering

Previous experience leading engineers in a formal or informal leadership capacity (Engineering Manager, Team Lead, Supervisor, Technical Lead, Project Lead, etc.)

Proven ability to prioritize work, allocate resources, and balance competing program demands

Strong communication skills with experience collaborating across engineering, operations, manufacturing, quality, and leadership organizations

Ability to review technical work, provide engineering guidance, and support critical decision making

Active Secret Clearance or ability to obtain one

Ability to work onsite full-time in a secure manufacturing environment

Pluses:

Experience within missile systems, launch systems, propulsion, energetics, aircraft, spacecraft, satellites, hypersonics, or other aerospace and defense programs

Experience leading cross-functional engineering organizations in a manufacturing environment

Background transitioning from an individual contributor role into people leadership

Experience working within production, development, qualification, or flight hardware programs

Project or program management experience supporting technical teams

Experience supporting design reviews, manufacturing readiness reviews, verification and validation activities, or production ramp efforts

Familiarity with classified defense programs and DoD customers

Master's degree in Engineering, Engineering Management, or a related field

Demonstrated success building engineering teams, mentoring engineers, and improving organizational performance
