Job summary

Sciens Building Solutions in Perkiomenville, PA is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead a team of designers and CAD Operators responsible for standards, system design, and code compliance. This role focuses on improving design department efficiency and evaluating processes to implement improvements.

You will interface with CAD Operators, Designers, project managers and sales to support their needs. Ideal candidates will have manufacturer training, in-house training, and on-the-job experience

Qualifications

• 2–5 years of experience with commercial fire and life safety systems.
• 2–5 years of experience leading design and CAD Operator teams in fire alarm and life safety.
• Strong knowledge of NFPA 72 design and installation standards.
• NICET Level III certification in Fire Alarm and/or Special Hazards.
• Proficient in AutoCAD and fire protection code requirements.

Responsibilities

• Lead a team of designers and CAD Operators with supervision, mentoring, training, and performance reviews.
• Participate in design reviews to ensure timely, accurate, and budget-compliant outcomes.
• Provide feedback to management to establish and update department goals.
• Review designs before approval to meet quality and code requirements.
• Manage project backlog to ensure timely completion for internal and external customers.
• Ensure adherence to company policies and safety initiatives.
• Collaborate with sales and project managers to optimize design efficiency and quality.
• Support management in developing a quality service program for design and engineering.

Ideal candidates will have manufacturer training, in-house training, and on-the-job experience as it relates to design. The Engineering Manager applies engineering principles to every design for code compliance and customer requirements; analyze product specifications and performance requirements to determine designs that can be installed in customer facilities; interface with CAD Operators, Designers, project managers and sales, and support their various needs.

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING (and doing well!)

• Lead a team of designers and CAD Operators, providing supervision, mentoring, training, and engagement reviews.
• Participate in the design review process with design team members; ensure designs are timely, accurate, and budget compliant.
• Provide feedback to management for establishing, monitoring, and updating goals for the engineering department and its team members.
• Review all designs before submitted for approval to ensure they meet the Company’s quality standards and code requirements.
• Review and manage the project backlog to ensure design and engineering is being completed in a timely manner to meet both internal and external customer needs.
• Ensure all Company policies and procedures are followed during daily work activities.
• Work independently or with others as a team to complete all tasks and related design functions.
• Routinely work with sales and project managers to ensure the most efficient design while maintaining the highest quality standards.
• Assist and provide feedback to the sales and project managers for organizing, planning, and prioritizing work.
• Assist management in developing and implementing a quality service program to increase efficiencies and proficiencies for the design and engineering department.
• Develop and implement AutoCAD design and drafting standards for the department.
• Responsible for ensuring all employees embrace our safety culture and comply with all safety initiatives.

What We Like About You

• Two to five years of experience with commercial fire and life safety system.
• Two to five years of experience leading design and CAD Operator teams in the fire alarm and life safety industry.
• Technical skills, including AutoCAD proficiency, and an in-depth understanding of fire alarm and life safety systems design.
• NICET Level III, certified in Fire Alarm and/or Special Hazards.
• Strong working knowledge of fire protection codes and operations.
• Proficient understanding of current NFPA 72 design and installation standards.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong leadership and time management skills, and the ability to multi-task.
• Able to travel by air and/or ground overnight, as necessary.
