Job summary

Sciens Building Solutions is seeking a Senior Fire Alarm System Designer to lead the design and engineering of fire alarm systems per NFPA codes and project specs. The role focuses on accuracy, timely delivery, and compliance, interfacing with CAD operators, project managers, and sales.

A team leadership mindset and strong drafting skills are essential. Ideal candidates bring manufacturer/in-house training and hands-on experience, plus NICET III certification and a deep understanding of NFPA 72.

Qualifications

  • Five years of experience designing commercial fire detection systems.
  • NICET III certification in Fire Alarm and/or Special Hazards.
  • Strong working knowledge of fire alarm codes and operations.
  • Proficient with AutoCAD and related drafting software.
  • Ability to read and interpret fire alarm project drawings and specifications.

Responsibilities

  • Design systems in accordance with NFPA and project specifications.
  • Review designs with the design team and drafters for accuracy.
  • Develop floor plans, riser diagrams, schematics, power calculations, and control panel layouts using AutoCAD.
  • Review all designs before submission to ensure quality and code compliance.
  • Lead a team and work with sales and project managers to optimize design efficiency.
  • Support the design and engineering department to improve service quality.

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING (and doing well!)


  • Design systems in accordance with NFPA and project specifications.

  • Participate in the review process with other design team members and drafters, as requested by management.

  • Using software such as AutoCAD, develop floor plans, riser diagrams, schematics, system power calculations, and control panel layouts.

  • Review all designs before submitting for approval to ensure they meet Sciens quality standard and code requirements.

  • Follow all Sciens policies and procedures during daily work activities.

  • Work independently and lead a team to complete all tasks and related design functions.

  • Routinely work with sales and project managers to ensure the most efficient design while maintaining the highest quality standards.

  • Assist management in developing and implementing a quality service program to increase efficiency and proficiencies for the design and engineering department.

  • Assist management by advising drafters to ensure that their goals and objectives are met.

  • Ensure design complies with applicable codes and AHJ requirements.


What We Like About You


  • Five years of experience designing commercial fire detection systems.

  • Minimum NICET III-certified in Fire Alarm and/or Special Hazards.

  • Strong working knowledge of fire alarm codes and operations.

  • Strong working knowledge of AutoCAD and other software programs required to perform job.

  • Proficient understanding of current NFPA 72 design standards.

  • Ability to read and interpret fire alarm project drawings and specifications.

  • Strong leadership and time management skills; and the ability to multi-task.

  • Working understanding of fire alarm design.

  • Excellent organizational, decision-making, and communication skills.

  • Ability to work under tight deadlines with a sense of urgency.
