We're partnering with a rapidly growing, Series B HealthTech startup that's transforming how healthcare organizations operate and handle prior authorizations. The company is building AI-powered technology to automate complex clinical and administrative workflows, reducing inefficiencies across the healthcare system and enabling clinicians to spend more time focused on patient care.
Backed by some of the most respected investors in technology, the team combines deep clinical expertise with exceptional engineering talent to solve some of healthcare's most challenging problems.
They're at an exciting stage of growth and are looking for an Engineering Manager who can help scale the engineering organization while remaining deeply involved in the product.
About the Role
We're looking for a hands-on Engineering Manager who combines exceptional software engineering ability with strong technical leadership and a passion for building impactful products.
This is a true player-coach opportunity, ideal for someone who has spent much of their career as a high performing Software Engineer or Technical Lead and has either recently transitioned into management or is looking to take the next step in their leadership career.
You’ll lead and mentor a team of talented engineers while remaining close to the technical architecture, product development, and engineering execution.
The ideal candidate is someone who genuinely loves engineering, thrives in fast moving, startup environments, and wants to grow as a leader without stepping away from the technology.
What You’ll Do
- Lead and develop a high performing engineering team, providing mentorship, technical guidance, feedback, and support while fostering a culture of ownership and continuous improvement.
- Own engineering execution, working closely with product and cross-functional stakeholders to translate ambitious product goals into scalable, reliable solutions and successful enterprise deployments.
- Stay hands-on with engineering, contributing to architecture, system design, technical problem-solving, code reviews, and critical development initiatives.
- Drive technical decision making, balancing engineering quality, scalability, performance, and speed of delivery.
- Build and scale production systems, helping develop AI-powered products that support complex healthcare workflows.
- Help shape the engineering organization, supporting hiring, onboarding, mentoring, and the development of future technical leaders.
- Operate with a strong product mindset, understanding not just how enterprise systems are built, but why they’re being built and how they create value for users.
What We’re Looking For
- 8-10+ years of software engineering experience, with a strong track record of designing, building, and shipping complex products and systems into production.
- Experience as an Engineering Manager, Tech Lead, Staff Engineer, or Senior Software Engineer with demonstrated technical leadership and mentorship responsibilities at a highly technical, product driven growth technology startup.
- Strong hands-on engineering fundamentals, particularly in backend systems, distributed systems, APIs, cloud infrastructure, and scalable architecture.
- Experience leading or mentoring engineers, whether through formal people management or technical leadership.
- A genuine desire to remain technically involved and close to the code, rather than moving into a purely managerial position.
- Experience building and scaling reliable software systems in fast-paced, high-performing engineering environments.
- Strong product instincts and the ability to collaborate closely with product teams to translate complex requirements into practical technical solutions.
- Excellent communication skills, sound engineering judgment, and the ability to balance long‑term technical quality with rapid execution.
- A high degree of ownership, adaptability, and excitement about building in an early-stage startup environment.
Even Better If You Have
- You’ve worked in or around payers, providers, or healthtech.
- Experience with utilization management, prior authorization, risk adjustment, HEDIS, claims, or interoperability (FHIR, Da Vinci, X12).
- You’ve been a founder, founding team member, or early operator.
- Experience with AI/ML-powered products, LLM applications, or data-intensive platforms.
- Experience building enterprise SaaS products, developer platforms, or complex infrastructure.
- Experience working on small, high-performing engineering teams where individuals have significant ownership and autonomy.
Why Join?
- Meaningful impact: Build technology that addresses some of the most challenging problems in healthcare.
- Technical ownership: Remain deeply involved in engineering while developing your leadership capabilities.
- Exceptional team: Work alongside highly accomplished engineers, AI specialists, and healthcare experts.
- Career growth: Help shape the engineering team and grow into broader leadership responsibilities as the company scales.
- Strong backing: Join a well‑funded startup supported by leading technology investors.
- Competitive compensation: Top-of-market salary, equity, and comprehensive benefits.
This is an exciting opportunity for an exceptional engineer who wants to take on greater leadership responsibility without losing what they love most about engineering: building great products and solving hard technical problems.
